Well with runflats you should also consider this, they were made to hold the car up in the event there is tire pressure loss so you can drive a few miles without having to pull over immediately to change the wheel.

With that said, even though the side walls are strong enough to hold the weight of the car for a short amount of time, it does not mean that you will never get a blow out. If you hit a pothole, the tire will have to endure more downward force than normal, far beyond what the side wall can handle if you were just cruising. That's why optimal tire pressure is key when it comes to runflats (and any other tire for that matter)

I hated the Continentals on my 2010 Sportswagen. In 70,000 miles I went through 3 sets!! The slightest pothole blows out the sidewall.

A few months ago I went with Yokahamas Grand touring. 10,000 miles later no complaints.

I originally wanted Michelin Pilot HX MXM4 (same price as the a/s) but they were on backorder for six weeks; everywhere and had to reluctantly put the Yokos on. I'm very happy with the ride on them. No bouncing or swaying on tight turns.

BTW these are for 17", what size are on yours?

yup, 17's at the moment

next spring/summer I'll get some 18's with summer tires

In 2010, 18's were optional and eventho I wanted them, I wanted leather & a sunroof more and the only packages that were available that had 18's were fully loaded with Nav and there was no way I was paying that much for a Nav. So I took the leather & sunroof knowing that I could always add 18's later and use my 17's for snows. Sucks that If I waited about 3 or 4 months more they would have been standard. I was going to get a Golf TDI but the wait was about 6 months with no guarantees that I'd get the options and/or color that I wanted so I got the GTI. No complaints nor regrets but I'm a diesel fan and this car is going to get me into trouble one day. It's a lot of fun and all ti does it keep reinforcing my confidence everytime I think I'm about to push it past it's limits and shows me it can take a little more.

I agree on the Continentals. We have an '06 Jetta TDI 5spd & a '10 GTI 6spd. The Jetta has less than 70k and has it' 3rd set and the GTI has less than 35K and I should have put new tires on at about 20-25K. Right now the front tires on the GTI are at the indicator and the rears are sooooo close.

The continentals did wear evenly tho so no complaints there. That's why I was considering the Continental Extreme Contact DWS (Dry, Wet, Snow) UHP A/S tires which are supposed to be significantly better than the stock Continental ContiProContact's.

So far I'm undecided but I have to make a decision by Monday.
Bridgestone & Michelin in my head are tied in first.

I'd like to know more about the Goodyear Eagle 1's.

I just recently put Goodyear Eagle F1's DWS on my tuned Legacy GT and am happy. Wet traction is great, as is dry. Reviews from the Subaru Legacy forum said Snow traction was pretty decent too. Main problem is that they are kind of pricey

I googled your tires up but I couldn't find the DWS version. Can you help point me in the right direction?

Thanks again.

No... It's because people are too lazy to check the tire pressure until, it's too late.

I agree and disagree. Some people are lazy. But most people don't know how to maintain their cars. Even simple things like checking the tire pressure.

Let's face it... it's still fun watching girls from NJ try to fill up gas for the 1st time in NY... most of them don't have a clue how to do it!
