no doubt, the owner of the store talked me into buying the stihl pants, they are made of a material that binds the saw chain if you happen to hit your legs, :knocking on all the wood I can find:

Awesome saw!! Had 3 of em for the fire dept. Then they went and bought these new Cutters Edge saws. Nothing but problems after that.

jon, what you need one of those for? Are you making your own wood, now :D

yeah, some of the furniture I make is from large pieces of solid wood.
you might have seen similar stuff, carved blocks of wood and solid trunks,
I call them "organic tables". to get the wood I cut up trees that have fallen down, or have landscapers drop off the large pieces after they cut a tree down. some of the trees are 24" + in diameter so I need all the power I can get. this was a compromise, I wanted a more powerful saw, but they get heavy after this model.

Chief the stihls they make for fire rescue are pretty sweet, I could not imagine having any other saw for a life or death situation. that sucks that they changed them on you. maybe they will go back to stihls the next time around.

Jon, FYI my friend. I've got a Stihl chainsaw, string trimmer and backpack blower.

My backpack blower seized on me in November, leaf blowing :duh: . Anyway, when I got it back from repairs, the service tech went into a whole long diatribe about the 2 part fuel being used nowadays.

Stihl just had a 5 hour seminar for all their authorized service technicians. The seminar included over 2 hours of fuel related info. Here's the lowdown. DO NOT USE ANY FUEL THAT HAS BEEN SITTING FOR LONGER THAN 30 DAYS. Apparently the new ethanol mix in our local gasoline supplies breaks down the two part mix and causes the bearings to bind and the carb to gunk up to the point of seizing.

Save yourself the repair costs (possibly replacement cost) and let your engine run dry if you don't think you'll use the saw within the next month. Or, empty the tank and then run till stopping.

I no longer buy gas to fill my 5 gallon container. I only buy it one gallon at a time and mix that. If you have any extra 2 part mixed gas that you want to dispose of, they said you can run it in a 4 cycle engine (lawn mower) without any problems. Just use a little at a time.

HTH,
Russ

BTW, very nice saw.

Oh yeah, one more BTW, that makes two jewish boys with Stihl chainsaws. :arg: :arg:

wow thanks Russ, that is a HUGE tip to know.

when I bought the saw today they showed me how to use it and gave me some tips, but they never mentioned the fuel thing. they did tell me to use high test fuel only, oh well no more reg for my chain saws.

you really have to keep track of your usage then if you can't have any fuel older than 30 days.
