Jon, FYI my friend. I've got a Stihl chainsaw, string trimmer and backpack blower.
My backpack blower seized on me in November, leaf blowing :duh: . Anyway, when I got it back from repairs, the service tech went into a whole long diatribe about the 2 part fuel being used nowadays.
Stihl just had a 5 hour seminar for all their authorized service technicians. The seminar included over 2 hours of fuel related info. Here's the lowdown. DO NOT USE ANY FUEL THAT HAS BEEN SITTING FOR LONGER THAN 30 DAYS. Apparently the new ethanol mix in our local gasoline supplies breaks down the two part mix and causes the bearings to bind and the carb to gunk up to the point of seizing.
Save yourself the repair costs (possibly replacement cost) and let your engine run dry if you don't think you'll use the saw within the next month. Or, empty the tank and then run till stopping.
I no longer buy gas to fill my 5 gallon container. I only buy it one gallon at a time and mix that. If you have any extra 2 part mixed gas that you want to dispose of, they said you can run it in a 4 cycle engine (lawn mower) without any problems. Just use a little at a time.
HTH,
Russ
BTW, very nice saw.
Oh yeah, one more BTW, that makes two jewish boys with Stihl chainsaws. :arg: :arg:
