Bluespot

The only "pro trick" for cycling large tanks is using Fritzzyme which is really more of a commercial size company than hobbyist, although they do make smaller sizes for retail. Most of the major aquariums use it and you can special order large quantities of it (it smells like death died and rotted even in small amounts). It's an industrial version of live bacteria and for larger non-reef systems you need to use the ammonia component to feed the bacteria and speed things up.

When you are dealing with large systems, you can't apply the same rules as you would with a small home tank. Carting water to large jobs costs far more than any benefits you would reap from it. In small tanks maybe but then you still need to keep a massive quantity of water on hand at all times, taking up space that other items that make more money would otherwise be in, which defeats the purpose.

If you are familiar with Murphy's law than you can understand that even the best designed and layed out systems can have problems and stocking a system on day one even if you think the biological is stable is irresponsible, not only for the livestock but the customer as well. Adding thousands of dollars worth of fish to a tank only to realize there is a major problem or some catastrophic equipment failure only makes the problem that much worse. You want to run a system for at least a little while to make sure everything is operating as it should and that applies to any size system.

The other cringe worthy moment from last night was the addition of blue spot stingrays (I won't even go off about handling one of them). Besides being elasmobranchs and already super sensitive to water conditions, the blue spot rays have a terrible survival rate in captivity. Adding hard to keep species to a tank that probably only gets serviced once every two weeks to once a month is ridiculous and probably means certain death for the animal if the customer isn't proactive with the tank. They also failed to mention that they are venomous and even at only 14" in diameter as an adult they have been responsible for human deaths.

True blue spots stingrays are delicate, have mine 3years plus doing great

Does it really get good ratings? It's entertaining, but the little bald guy an the wife are soooooo annoying I find it less appealing than what I'm reading...perhaps if the wife were hotter to look at like the women on Entourage I'd be more into it...but that's me! Doh, let the flamin begin!

after people watch this show their gonna setup a tank not giving it time and constantly turnover fish
Why would you think that? Look at all the work they put into it. I doubt people would just attempt that. If anything people might call up people like them to install and maintain one. Either way people do dumb things everyday and killing animals is 1 of them that's going to happen with or without shows like this.

Well I think she's already out of his league lol look at what the guy looks like. He looks like his name should be moose how hot of a wife do you think he's going to have? She's actually not that bad looking and especially for that guy. Yea sure if it had girls like on entourage that would be great but it would take away from the show a little. I was playing a poker tournament at this club last weekend and there was hot waitresses and chicks everywhere and it definitely took away from the game, It slowed it down and took us off topic of cards and onto booties and breastasisss lmao.

To everyone who keeps bringing up the fact that they don't use real coral, read into the company name. They are NOT an aquarium maitnance business, they probably will never go back to a job unless it needs hardware upgrades/tweaks or something is wrong with a tank. All they do is build tanks the corals and decorations are a plus since they can build their own and get creative but they aren't going to be showing up every week at your house to do water changes and baby any tanks, not their job.

I doubt they'd do it for that much, the smaller custom tanks they make start at 10-20k and we're talking 50ish gallons. Give them a call, google up the company name I called and asked about making a 175g acylic tank they wouldn't even give me an estimate.

Yes I just got home from a week long vacation, first full day home, and about an hour or so ago my girlfriend yelled to me "RYAN! TANKED ON TONIGHT!" I set the tv right away! I missed every episode so far, except the very first one with the hot rod car tank and that cool QT set up. So far, I'm impressed with this episode. They are slowly starting to say correct information. I don't know about lifting a purple linkia star out of the water, and with your hand, but besides that, the tanks looked real nice and the coral looked real healthy after putting them in! Was that a LFS they got the coral from, or a distributor? If a lfs, which and what was the name? I was not listening when they said the store name.

So Far, for their first reef set up, very nice!

The store is aquarium design network, I think it's Nassau county, I want to check it out too, they had nice looking stuff. There was another thread about that store on here this week.
I thought both tanks last night were cool, but putting all that coral and fish into that tank in one shot I thought was risky.
