  1. new kole tang

Mine took a few days to start eating, but now eats mysis and even flake food. They are great fish to have in a reef, constantly grazing off the rock and glass. Keep trying different things, including flake for herbivorous fish like formula 2. These fish are not accustomed to eating things out...
  2. Vortech MP40

So its as simple as matching the input fitting and hooking that straight up to the battery?
  3. Need pump recommendations

I've got two mag 9.5s running for 4 years straight, no rust. However, there is a reason the eheims are more money. If the flow of the 1262 is sufficient, I think your making a great choice. Go for it!!
  4. Vortech MP40

I just picked up my first MP40 (thanks to an MR member) and was wondering if I could hook up the battery back to an extra deep cell battery I had from my boat (type 27). Has anyone done this? According to the pdf version of the manual the back up input is 12v. BTW had to sell the boat if you...
  5. Need pump recommendations

Live and learn as they say. But do the eheims produce that much less heat? If both used internally not sure why one would be vastly superior in that regard. Again I have no experience with the eheims. One thing is for sure is that the mags are avaliable in much higher capacities.
  6. Need pump recommendations

I've never owned an eheim, but if you want to save a few bucks and get potentially more flow I have owned Mags and they are bullet proof.
  7. Jay's 110 AGA Tank Build

It looks like your getting good growth from the monti caps and coraline algae. How are you dosing calcium and alk, 2 part?
  8. Baking soda

Cook the baking soda in the oven at 300F for an hour, then you'll basically have ESV alk. See the link below: http://reefkeeping.com/issues/2006-02/rhf/index.php#7
  9. LIRA Collecting trip

Really cool!! I wish I could have gone. I'm a science teacher with few tanks in the classroom. We go on a class trip (on a boat) out of Freeport and dredge the bottom, then take a few "creatures" back to the school tank.
  10. Reactors for a 220

I've been running two Phosban 150s, one for carbon and the other for GFO. I would like to get some bigger reactors especially for the GFO. I've been considering the BRS Jumbo. What are others using? Any thoughts? Larger reactor or change media more often? Thanks!
  11. Magnesium Chloride

I've been using BRS, but I'm giving the cheap alternatives a try: Calcium - Calcium Chloride - Prestone Driveway Heat from Autozone Alk - Sodium Carbonate - "baked" baking soda Mg - Magnesium Sulfate - Epsom Salts and Magnesium Chloride ???? Here is a good article if you haven't read it...
  12. Magnesium Chloride

    No one doses Mg?
  13. Magnesium Chloride

Anyone know where I can get some magnesium chloride ie mag flakes (or a deicer) on LI?

  15. Calcium Reactor

Edd No problems with the skimmer in the winter when the air is cold? I may do the same if I notice any drop. Also, I assume the second chamber gets no co2? Thanks
