I used to have some noise where the water draining reaches the sump. at the end of the flex tubing, I have a 12" length of PVC tubing with a 45 degree fitting at the end, I teied a 90 degree, but I felt like it was too sharp of an angle.... and the opening is totally submerged in the sump water...

it is quiet, the water flows up but just barely over the end, and once its broken in, it will than flow down outside the riser tube...if needed you can raise the sponge up the length of the tube....it was noisey for the first hour or so, than it quieted down........you dont want the riser tube...
