  1. Big Thumbs Up for MarineDepot

I went on vacation a week ago Friday...the night before I left I decided to clean the overflow siphon tube and when I was restarting it I managed to zap my IceCap ballast with water. It was 8:30 PM EST when I called MarineDepot and explained I was leaving for a 9 day vacation the next...
  2. help killing hair algee

I think good skimming, using RO/DI (0 on TDS Meter) and dripping kalk has caused mine to die off.
  3. ACTINIC LIGHTING AND PHOTOGRAPHY

It will depend on your cameras abilty to handle white balance. If it can handle custom white balance you can get better color by setting it to match the lighting. You can also try setting white balance in Photoshop or another graphics program.
  4. Best Kalk dosing pump? Reef Filler?

I have had a reef filler for years, it is a very reliable pump, plenty of power, but is noisy. Bill
  5. VARIO dosing pump heat / can you run 24/7 ?

I have the same pump (Vario 3 Plus), I think it states in the advertisements and possibly the directions that it should not be used for dosing kalk and that it is not for continous use. I use it to dose C-Balance but it only runs 3 minutes a day..no heat. I have not figured out what to use the...
  6. Southdown Sand in NC?

I attempted to find some in April/May around Raleigh and Eastern NC without any luck.
  7. Sea Swirl size and pump size questions

Eddie G, A closed loop is setup with the intake and outlets from the pump going to the main tank. Closed loops do not use a sump, that way if electrical power goes out you do not need to worry about water overflowing on to the floor and it will start up again when the power comes on...assuming...
  8. Sea Swirl size and pump size questions

I setup a closed loop with 2 of the 3/4 inch sea swirls connected to an Ampmaster 3000...they are in a 75 gallon tank (48 x 18 inches) and I have to throttle back the output to prevent the water from going over the front of the tank! I suspect this setup would be about perfect in your tank...

  10. RO undersink owners ?

Carl, I have my RO under the bathroom sink and it fills a 3 Gallon covered bucket that is also under the sink. I use 1-1.5 gal per day in my 75 gal reef. The RO is tapped into the cold water line. The discard is tapped into the drain. I installed the Kent float valve and soleniod which...
  11. Live Sand Dollars in Reef tanks

I picked up 4 small ones 1.5 inches in diameter from Fort Meyers Beach. I have 2 in my main tank and 2 in the refugium..they have been there since late June. They move around and disturb the upper layer...only see them once in a while but usually can find them because of the trail left behind...
  12. Closed Loop and SeaSwirls Question

Ben, Thanks for your input...I would like to get the PHs out of the tank and from what you indicated 2 of the SeaSwirls should be good alternative for a 75. I just need to decide on the pump. The tank has a frogspawn, colt, mushroom rock, button polyp rock, metallic green star polyp, red tube...
  13. Closed Loop and SeaSwirls Question

The more I think about this I suspect I will end up with 2 of the 3/4 inch SeaSwirls with some pump??? The y connector sounds like a good idea! Thanks..
  14. Closed Loop and SeaSwirls Question

I have read all I can find on the board regarding closed loop systems and SeaSwirls but still need some advice on what I really need. I have a 75 gallon tank and have been thinking of getting one of the 3/4 inch SeaSwirls with an Iwaki MD30RLXT. I am assuming the SeaSwirl needs a flow not...
  15. Float Valve Problem

ColdZero - Give Kent Marine a call they should help you out. Call (770)966-5200; Press 5 for tech support and talk to John. By the way, the float valve has an adjustment knob on the side maybe changing the position of the adjustment knob will help. Bill
