I'm looking forward to some test results. I have narrowed my search(I believe), to DAS BX-3 and Elos - 1000. I do not like the fact that DAS does no marketing, and such a poor display on petorama. That is the only place i can find it on. The effort that Elos takes to "get their product to the public" is pretty amazing. If there was a local store like the one in Rome, no way could I leave without an purchase and feeling great about it. As of now I'm leaning towards the Elos, if it ever had problems it is easy to find their rep, sorry dont know your name. As I have seen you post in other places, good job. This is what I'm speaking of. The Elso website is kickass, full of info and lots of high quality pics, I wish they were bigger, but they are there. www.eloseurope.com

hey Dirty South,
I just took some pics of the das ex-2 with a real camera.
I'll have the pics on some results up tomorrow.

the elos looks like it's hanging in there, while I was gone it skimmed a respectable amount, and it's the same nasty dark stuff.

the DAS will be in the sump soon, so we'll see what it can do.

between the bx-3 and the ns-1000 I'd have to give the edge to the DAS, that's three aqaubee's your talking about vs one ehiem 1260.
now when we see pics of the elos ns-4000, that will be a challange.

the Elos rep's name is Jesse by the way, we got to meet him in NY, he's a great guy and actually calls me to see how the skimmers doing :)
I agree with you about the store, if there was one in NY I would have to leave my wallet at home ;)

That pictured skimmer is a DAS EX-2, Jhale just got one.

I called Petorama on Thursday, left them a message and no one got back to me so far. i am ready to buy a EX-3 but don't like to use a website with a none secure shopping cart. It's pretty bad the product have to sell it self, maybe they have a some type of non-marketing policy with Deltec??

I could imagine that they had to stop the marketing when Deltec moved into the US. Currently Giesemann also makes the Turbo Skimmers and they also do not market it.

cali it's almost impossible to get them on the phone,
when I did speak to someone last week they told me they were busy working on the warehouse. maybe dusting off all the old DAS skimmers.
who knows.

Maybe I'll have to wait until my trip to DFW in September to see the store in person?

Herman, lets get a distributership in the NYC area setup and make a killing:biggrin:, seems like every other newbie thinks there is a huge profit to be made in the hobby.

the DAS EX-2

Since there are hardly any photos of DAS skimmers anywhere I'm going to do them a favor and
publish the most in depth photo series of the DAS ever seen ;)

the DAS EX-2 , Jackson made me do it...

It's also interesting that they incorporated a ball valve on the feed side to turn down the flow if your using a feed pump that might be to powerful ('cept they don't give you the recommended flow rate, but Herman corrected that). They should have added a ball valve on the output standpipe as this will control your inner chamber water level height if you don't get the needed input flow or if you don't choose to run x-amount of gph through the skimmer. All the Deltecs that are larger than the APF600 uses ball valves on the output standpipe so you can control the inner chamber water height. This would have been more useful than the feed ball valve that they supplied though you can place a gate valve mod off the output exit yourself.

thanks Russ,

one thing I'll say, after looking at the DAS it's pretty easy to see this is something that a person with decent DIY skills can make. there is nothing to complicated about it.

I will be interested in the OR-700 pumps when they are available.
for 18 watts less they do the same thing, that would be a savings of 36 watts, 24/7 every watt makes a difference, for those that live in NY and CA you know what I mean. Unless you like giving all your hard earned cash to Con-Ed, or LILCO (ba$tard$)
