if you google Dutch Aquarium Systems you'll find their site with a PDF you can download about their skimmers. There is little info on it, it's more like a parts list. They really seem to do nothing to promote their products for consumers. I guess they think people will figure out they make great skimmers, either that or they want to keep their own company a secret to the majority of reefers.

look here, http://www.petstorefixtures.com/Index.html

Dean I never thought I'd live to see this day :( ;)

the (reef) devil made me do it

ok it was not the devil, it was herman, might be the same thing though.

after the swap herman, eric, and jesse from elos came over to my place.

somehow I ended up buying a skimmer from jesse :scratchch

so I now have the first production model elos skimmer in the country sitting in my apartment waiting to go in my sump :fish:

It's the Natural Skimmer 1000 model, the one that was at the swap. Jesse said it will take a couple of days to break in so it's going to be a while before I can post picks of what this beauty is capable of.

I'll take some pics of it out of the sump and all taken apart, it's design is pretty amazing.

Jonathan,
Little did you know that Herman, Jesse and I were already talking on how the Elos skimmer at the swap was destined for your 120!

ha, it was a set-up! lol, actually I had told Jesse I was potentially interested in one of the elos skimmers. I was on the fence though. I'll be happy when I see it in action. Herman has first dibs on smelling the skimmate :thrash:
sorry Rich, I'll save you some :D

Jhale lmk when you get it running. It looks like a very good design and it's built like a house! I just need to see it skim :) I can't smell anymore skimmate, I'm starting to get brain damage:dead1:

Elos NS-1000

Some shots of the Skimmer before it went into the sump.

Do not let the small size deceive you, this skimmer will compete with ones much larger than it.

It all breaks down for cleaning easily, no tools needed, just four thumb screws hold the body together.

close up of the thumb screws, shows the attention to detail nicely,

NS-1000 cont.

This is the one adjustment you make on the skimmer, how much air that goes in the body is controlled precisely by this plastic C-clamp.
elos5.jpg

water and air enter from the top and shoot through this tube,

a close up of the inside of the body, this is the top where the body meets the collection cup.

I'll have more pics tomorrow of the skimmer in action.
It produces very fine bubbles that fill the entire chamber and rise up at a nice steady rate. The ehiem pump is perfectly matched with the skimmer.
I could not wait to try it, within an hour the skimmer was making thick frothy skimmate, then it went nuts and I had to turn the air off.

The only thing I don't like so far is the small sized collection cup, a larger one is available.

Just got back. Nice pictures Jonathan. I officially hate driving in NY and NJ! I had a nice meeting with IceCap today and managed to get lost everytime I turned a corner. I went with the Chevy Cavalier and that would be the "sea clone of the road". Anyways, it was nice getting a chance to meet some of you guys ( and a girl or 2). Jonathan, you will be able to see the air bubbles escaping through the outlet if it is not broken in yet. Because I am so impatient the first night I ran it super, super dry ( barely reaching the bottom of the cup) and the next morning I cleaned the cup and dialed it in. You were basically skimmerless so it will be interesting to see how it does the first few days catching up with your system. The one thing I thought about was the position of the skimmer. Are you going to have it on the left side or the right side next to the drain? Obviously, next to the drain would be ideal but I don't know if it will fit there. Anyways, I'll send the box out wednesday. Thanks again you guys for inviting me and I will talk to you later. Oh and I have the sump and a NS500 here that I can post pics if you guys want. Jesse
