dj you must have not seen sunny's tank, and easy to say something is great or the best, but lets see the results, i have been watching leds for awhile as well as i have owned a AI and a maxspect unit, neither of which compare to my ATI powermodule

apparently 2sunny is not out in the real world much if you go on reef central all the major large systems are slowly converting onto led's and it's not because of saving on electricity neither the most viewed system on r.s witch is nineballs is currently switching over to orphek led's

I'm out in the "Real World" a lot and I wouldn't say ALL the major setups are switching over. The funny thing is the guys that are raving about LED's are the ones that have it. There are as many stories of bleaching and coral acclimation issues as there are TRUE success stories with LED's. At this point they are still nowhere near as proven as MH's or T5's.

I also agree that for actinic supplementation LED's are really nice and when combined with MH's I think offer up the best setup. Did you attend the swap? Did you get a chance to see Randy's 240? hands down one of the most amazing tanks I have had the opportunity to see. MH's with LED actinics. If you blocked out the room you'd swear you were diving off the great barrier reef.

LED's will at some point likely surpass MH and T5's in our hobby but we are nowhere near that point I feel. The cost is still rediculously high and depending on the individuals needs the cost to run isn't really as dramatic as some would lead you to believe.

if they don't compare it's interesting how there taking over the hobby so quickly and are always on everybody's topic and furthermore nobody is discussing witch is better everybody has there own preference the debate on witch is better will never end because everyone has there preferred taste my only discussion are people claiming that 1 wt led's are junk and like stated before there are dozens of company's that build led units it all depends on witch one u went with

taking over ? so for every 1 person who purchase's them there are a 1000 who dont. that still go with t5 or mh. dont get me wrong i do know they grow corals, i do know pending which and what blue's they make corals pop, i do know my friend has been using them for atleast 3 years or more and know a couple others who have been as well, personally i like t5's for 1 reason. noth other lighting system can allow you to have all the spectrums t5's can, unless you build your own led and run alot of different leds and then you more then likely wont have the light balance, i dont want to highjack this thread but if i get a chance i will start a thread showing the difference from a tek 8 bulb t5 to a maxspect 170w to a ati sunpower 6 bulb to my current ati powermodule lol btw i am making the switch again to 3 AI's ;) just to play around with

Ever hear of "The IN thing"? That's what LED's are right now I think. I also think it's one of the biggest reasons the cost on them is as high as it is. And if your going to be honest almost 90% of the posts on RC are about DIY units.

They definitely hold promise but they still have some growing up to do so to speak.

I have numbed my brain going back and forth on the lighting to use on my tank (See my sig) but at this point there is just not enough info, results or savings to push me to LED's.

I think the funniest selling point is never having to change bulbs again. To me, every manufacturer should have a lifetime warranty on LED replacement goes. A board or board level component is a different story but if an LED burns out or goes bad it should be replaced, free of charge if your going to use LED's lifespan as a major selling point.

i'm the one that showed feng where to buy his led panells the first led's that he displayed in his store were bought from me i've been running the 1 waters for over 3 years and never had a problem but then again my panels were 119 wt wile fengs were 112wt don't market that the one waters are garbage and unreliable because it's not true it all depends who manufacters the panells and coming out of chine there are over a dozen company's but i can speak that the company that produces the ones i buy are on the money because i have seen the long term use and have ordered over 30 units

Feng use to run all acan led fixtures in his store. He said he switched over because the china ones were more affordable, but. He said the acans were better. Also its kinda hard to believe a guy from china that orders everything from china including his livestockand other fixtures previous to the acans had to have help finding these leds

this is one of those discussions that will never end because like stated before everyone has there one tastes but there is so many led lighting out there that most people are not aware of right now i am running led panells that i can dim and change to whatever color i want if i want red blue green yellow purple any color is possible they give me possibilities in color combination's that simply i would not get with t 5's but then again that's my preference no body is claiming that mh or t 5's are out of the hobby just that there is other possibilities available and we haven't even started the discussions on plasma lighting wait till there is more resources on those

Currently I am using 3 different types of lighting on 3 different tanks.

1 w/ MH
1 w/ T5
1 w/ LED

I like them all for different applications but my favorite type of lighting is still MH.
