One way to help might be to choose aquacultured stuff over harvested stuff whenever possible. For example, most fish stores sell harvested clown fishes, and ORA bred clown fishes for $2 more. Vote with your wallets!

Give me a break. Note how he fails to mention the skyrocket in aquaculturing? This guy is a glory hound. I'm disappointed in the Sea Shepherds for putting support into this by mentioning him on their site.

attacking the messenger does nothing to change the message. you can audit his company, attack his affiliations, call him a nut, whatever. maybe he is a nut, maybe his numbers aren't accurate, but the gist of it seems pretty right on.

I agree with jrob.

Things need to change: more aquaculturing, tank breeds, restrictions...

Hate to say it... but it's true.

When i see the atrocities committed by clueless (and many times downright cruel) fishkeepers... overstocked tanks...water and energy wastes...

Just go on Youtube and you see it first hand.

I've gotten a deep appreciation of the ocean and gained a decent amount of knowledge by getting into this hobby.... so maybe we can put our heads together and put that knowledge to good use.

We can be part of the solution.

With our knowledge... maybe we can help somehow.

Aquarium Ban

The newbies that jumped the hobby(not licensed) are the ones that through trial and error came up with the education and training on how to keep saltwater animals alive in our aquariums and the learning process is still on going. At one time we were all newbies, so maybe we shouldn't be to hard on the newbies of today.

Alot of good/bad points made here......

I dislike the Sea Shepard/crew/etc....I agree with their intentions, but there method of execution is just terrible. Not to mention I actually dislike those people based on their character and how they act.

and as Randy mentioned, "the author has his own agenda", but, who doesn't have their own agenda....obviously, we all have our own agendas, as we are hobbyist, and would like to be able to buy more coral.

Truth be told, I think "they" should eliminate all coral harvesting, and carefully watch and limit fish collection.

If you are not part of the solution, Then you are part of the problem. It sound to me there are people here ready to be part of the solution and give up on our hobby. You are all better people than me, bc i'm not giving up nada. Nor i'm i going to let this dude but a damper on what brings me a lot of joy. I put a lot of effort into making my livestock as happy as possible. Yeh some people don't, can't we report people like that to the human society. When we see abuse like on youtube etc.. Dose the human society recognize abuse on fish and other sea life. So lets give up our dogs, cats etc..They suffer a lot at the hands of breeders not all but a lot of bad breeders out there. And the licences really
people get them every day to drive. people still drink and drive.

Instead of taking from reefs is anyone out there harvesting artificial reefs? Instead of aquaculturing inland they could do it in the ocean and cut a lot of overhead.
