J, the wall was open with seconds of them seeing the "glow" behind it.
It could have spread to the second floor, but since there are fire stops in older houses, it, well, stopped and they were able to contain it locally -
Kathy, yeah, glad we decided to have a Wii blowing competition with my 5yr old son. He was bummed as he was bowling 184 in the 9th frame :bigeyes:
The Fire Chief said it's a chicken egg thing - the wire started the fire in the wall, but there is speculation that the heat from the fireplace (or lose or missing mortar inside the firebox) that comprimised the wire. Either way, the fire is deemed electrical in nature and gladly covered by the insurance. Another good thing (and these things never cross the mind of the innocent), was that I was release of any wrong-doing. I was like WHAT? Seriously, though - after thinking at length about it, peopl are having a nard time paying their mortgage and who know what they'd be willing to do to avoid foreclosure.
