Len, I read on usplastics website that the grey PVC should be painted white to prevent breakdown from UV light. Being on the top of the tank, are you sheilding the pipe, or are you using a UV sheild?

I'm using no shield, but I also read about that as well. The way I have it plumbed, I can easily swap it out and add new plumbing. To be honest, though, I don't expect it ever to become a problem.

Len, Have you ever had issues with your smaller fish swimming up one the outputs of your oceansmotions while that output was off?

Thanks,
Kevin

Hey Kevin, nope. It's never been a problem. Some small perching fish like gobies and blennies might do that but my current fishes won't.

That is good to here, i will be having similar fish in my 58 gallon. I asked you before what fish you had in your tank at that moment, and i did not see the cap clown on the list.

I removed the cap clown a long time ago (sold it locally). It was a terror and attacked every fish in the tank.

Oooh, that is not that good. I may have to rethink getting one. I have one waiting for me from one of the members on rareclownfish.org.

Len,

I have never seen this thread before, and i took the time to read all 13 pages worth. Your tank is beautiful. It seems as if you thought of every single detail when assembling. I cant figure out why all of a sudden you just stopped posting pics. I really dont understand. I know you are proud of that tank, my goodness anybody would be. Could you please bring your camera out of retirement and let me see the tank now that it is aged.

Another question, if you dont mind me asking, what kind of work do you do? You have spent a fortune, i mean having somebody deliver special water to fill your tank alone had to be expensive enough. SHOW THAT INVESTMENT OF YOURS OFF!!! please..

I'll take pics some time, though no promises on time frame :P The tank is doing welll; I was planning on doing a write up for www.advancedaquarist.com at the end of this year. Pics will come by then, I promise ;)

I work for a distribution company as a director of operations. I'm well off but I really don't make that much: I just have strange allocation of resources ;) Plus, I'm single so all my money goes to funding myself 8)

That is why I have not been able to make the big jump.
Married with 2 kids. My son is 2 and my daughter is 6. My wife is a home maker. Alright so i am putting the wife to work and then i shall upgrade..

AHH good feeling gone.

Well Len the tank is great, it gives me inspiration of something to shoot towards. When my upgrade happens(and it will) i will need as muc advice as possible because I want to do it right.

What kind of glue do you use on you live rock?

Post some pictures soon! We all want to see what you've got running. It's such a beautiful tank, suck awesome rockwork, amazing fish, and expectedly great corals! We want to see it all together!!! I love seeing different tank setups! Might love it even more than looking at my own tank! So, be mindful and let's see some pics!

And on a side note, do the scrapers that attach to mag floats work well for you? On coraline, even?

I don't use it anymore since I switched to Algaefree magnets because they had an intermediate size that worked better for my tank. The mag float scraper that OM sells worked. You need to lock down the blade tightly or else it gets gradually pushed back by the coralline into the holder and becomes ineffective. If your magnet is too weak, it might not work all that well either.

Do the algaefree mags cut through the coralline?

Maybe I'm flowery!

The tank is at my parent's place, same spot as my old tank. That's why I am pretty insistant on a reliable, as-automated-as-possible tank. I'm not settled in enough at this time in my life to have a big tank.

Heh....you're already in the realm of HUGE hassle moving a tank the size you have my friend, believe me. Huge, HUGE pain in the ass. I moved a 90 gallon corner reef a few years ago, and am not about to repeat the experience.

I'll be buying another house in the next few years, and refuse to set up anything larger than a 30 gallon until then. I'm done moving big tanks...learned my lesson there.

I look forward to your "CRAP!! Moving my stupid 52x28x28 TANK!! ARGHHH!!! SOMEBODY SHOOT ME!!!" thread.
:P
