So what else do you feed it chock? - Crawfish and the occasional arrow crab all it ever gets? - Where are the videos of the other types of feedings?

Yeah, I know I sound judgemental, but really I could care less. If you get off on forcing a situation that sometimes occurs in nature hey, thats your thing. I mean really, I don't think the US should invade China to try and stop betta fighting.

I just wanted to get a "F*** yeah I like it, whats it to ya?" type of reaction out of ya, thats all.

Seriously, I actually liked the videos.. - Minus the background dialog, music and bad lighting of course!

Anyway.... - Next time you run into an arrow crab that munches xenia and it pisses ya off.... - Give Apophis there a jingle... - From what I understand, he's been DYING to find something to eat his...

Oh, yeah, and Apophis, IMO you have the wrong focus.. - NO animals exist on this planet to serve as your entertainment, education or even food.. - They are here for their OWN purposes, the same as us humans.

Those are just my opinions though.. - Everyone is entitled to their own..

You guys are so friggin funny.

If you want to go to the peta site go there.

As I recal chock just put a link to the video without any remarks to begin with. Then other members began the bashing. I'm with you chock. Being a mantis keeper I enjoyed the video and I'm glad you shared it.

What I find hilarious is the fact that alot of "members" on here can find worthy issues to protest instead of showing there ignorance on this matter....

Just give me a a PM any time ou have an arrow crab that eats Xenia!! once he is done with my xenia I have a good size clown mantis I will introduce him to. And i promise to have a booming soundtrack for the dinner party. As far as animals go,, IMO it belongs on a plate, or in a tank, in the zoo, or in a biology classroom or on a leash or at the track. They can run wild and free as long as it does not get in the way of "human bussines: " And Adam was givne dominion over all the animals in the Garden,,," that was done for a reason no doubt and who am i to argue with scripture. LOL

Remarks were included as audio. If there was no audio in the first place, we wouldn't be having this conversation.

FOrget how you guys feel about the feeding how do you think the mantis feels??

I doubt he cares if the people put something alive in there for feeding purposes or maliceful purposes he saw a meal all the same.

The Craw was raised for feeding and was used for it.

So what some one got a chuckle out of it.

Please dont try to liken this to Cock or dog fighting totally different and unrelated subjects.

The craw was used as food for another animal with a couple of giggles and remarks as a by product

Dog and Cock fights are used for only laughs, giggles, and betting purposes no one gets fed

Dog and Cock fights feed no one

Honestly though. Everyone is upset because someone got a few laughs and enjoyed watching there pet eat?

So if no one laughed or got amusement out of this then it would be ethicly ok? How does that make sense?

Just goes to show. If its cute and cuddly then it's ok. If it is doing what it was intended but isn't cute and cuddly it's not ok? Or in the least your not allowed to laugh and have enjoyment if you keep a mantis. Go figure...

Funny, just funny......

I can't speak for everyone obviously, but I don't think too many people got their panties in that big of a twist over it really.

Look at it this way (and argue that its not the same all you want, but utimately everyone decides how they feel about it for themselves) but its not much different than feeding a kitten to a wild dog. (A wild dog who will eat the kitten afterwards that is... - The dog fights/cock fights being an incorrect analogy is true because feeding is the ultimate issue which doesn't occur in those scenarios.) But really... - If you're keeping a predator and feeding it live prey.. - Duh! - Of course theres a "sick" element to it and of course your pet needs to eat... - Theres no clear point of view that has the moral high ground here is there?

Personally, yeah, I enjoyed the heck out of it.. - But (for me) the "hoo hoo hoo, man, he's kickin its' ass!" did kinda shake me out of my fascination and lead me to feel like I was watching a slaughter just for the sake of entertainment. - And apparently I wasn't alone.. - The key though is thats its a visceral thing.. - I doubt any who posted their views are tree-huggers who only keep snails and if they'd have been present during the filming instead of just bearing witness to it they wouldn't have stopped to feel that way.... Kind of the difference between being present during an accident and watching it on film later. (Watching it on film you can stop to go "OUCH!" but when you're there, adrenaline kicks in and you don't usually have the same thoughts/feelings..)

Bah.. - Anyway, I didn't come back to argue semantics.. Just thought some might get a kick out of this page..

i take on board a lot of this issues raised in this and simular topics.
i aggree with live feeding for predators...half the wildlife scenes we see on tv are set up i one way or another.
i do believe this kind of resarch however is normally done with a little more respect for the intended 'food' in the subject.
i still feel however that this was still done for pure entertainment value...summed up with the 'beavis and buthead' commentary.

I don't see how this is any different than a person feeding his fish feeders and finding some enjoyment by watching the event. It is a natural thing for the mantis to do.
