JHale,

I actually used this method for my tank and really like it. My rock towers look a little different but same basic idea. I also epoxy the crap out of the structure to prevent sliding or shifting.

E, where are pics of your aquascaping?

Since this is what the rock cooking thread has turned into post some here.

I ordered a bunch of aquastik's I plan to use a bit between each rock, and also use it to create ledges between the pillars.
My idea is too keep as much rock off the new ssb as possible.

If you can come over and take some that would be great! :D lol Otherwise I have to wait for my friend to come over and take some more including an FTS.

I think Brett might have a shot of something similar that I did for Randy's tank, which I scrapped due to room.

Here is what i did with the rock pillars I made for my aquascape.

and here is what it looks like with sand

I just stacked the rocks using 1/2" fiberglass rod as my skewer. Just make sure you drill the rocks off center so you can get interesting ledges. The flat base makes the stucture very stable, and since the rocks are not "glued" they can be easily dissassembled.

thanks Sanjay, that looks great.

what were the rocks you used for the bases?

I was thinking of using pvc rods attached to pvc flanges, which would sit under the large rocks. I guess both ways would provide support.

Hi Doc!!

That looks absolutely fantastic!!!! It will certainly be spectacular with the corals mounted. Are those brick pavers used as bases?

Yeah.. I went to lowes and picked some man made paving bricks.

Instead of PVC rod I would recommend fiberglass rods. I tried acrylic and rods and pvc rods, but they flex more than the fiberglass rods.

The fiberglass rods I used are attached to the pavers, by drilling a hole, sticking the rod into it and filling it with Thorite. Thorite is a fast setting cement.

Did you take an precautionary measures when using the pavers? I would be afraid that they would need to cure like agrocrete does, before it goes into the tank.
