I would love to buy just tonga branch just don't have the $ !!! Ill check it out though! If I could some how pull off similar effect with rock and PVC I'd be happy
Matt, you keep mentioning pvc as your means of stacking and securing your rockwork. You'd be a whole lot more effective using acrylic rods. You can get nice small 1/4" or 3/8" OD rods as opposed to using 1/2" ID pvc which actually measures about 3/4" OD.
Actually I just checked the OD of a 1/2" pvc pipe and it comes in even worse than I mentioned at 7/8". Definitely get yourself some acrylic rods. Here's a link:
Matt from the pic that you posted it looks like the rock will make a cool scape difficult but I'm not saying that it can't be done . It looks like dense rock without many crevices (brick like). If it was my tank I would search around for some cool rock from people taking down their tanks. A few LARGE pieces will make an open, stable scape easy. You will also add diverse critters and bacteria to the system.
Either way, like already said, you will be changing it over and over as you add more coral.
I think the overflow box and the fact that tank is 30" deep is a challenge for the aquascape!
1 thing is for sure I need a few really lg rocks I might try and use the waterfall stuff to connect med size rocks to make few lg base rocks as my budget for this tank right now is 0 and I know alot ppl will say do it right the first time spend the $ well unfortunately this tank will be built as I have $ with Christmas / birthday presents I do not believe in credit cards especially for a want not a need!
I had the same shaped rocks when i first started, too boulder like - very hard to come up with a decent design. Eventually i got rid of them and hand picked flat shelf like rocks. Here is a early tank picture taken back OCT 2012
