If you meam the water line is above the sump water you still can get a siphon. It still sounds like it. This would most likley only happen when the fresh water is full. The water line going to the sump needs to be higher than the fresh water level. Not sure if this helps, but if everything else works thats what it seems to point to.

The only thing i could tell you to try is fill your fresh water, remove water from sump and watch and see what happens if the water dosent stop after the pump stops its a siphon. Cant think of anything else other than float stuck pump stuck, or siphon.

Like he said, the output line of the Ato has to be higher than the full level of your Ato container.

Thanks for your help guys!! Really appreciated!
Ahhhh, ok so I won't fill the 10 gallon. I'll make sure it is a little below the sump water level.
I thought that by both sump & ato tank sitting side by side. As well as the water from the ato having to travel up & over the only possible problem would've been back flow.
I included a pic of the actual set up. The return section of the sump is right by the ato tank, and the water line level in the return section is lower then that of the ato when it is fully filled.

BTW, disregard the skimmer bubbles. That has been addressed.;)

U can fill the Ato container all the way, just make sure the end of the hose for top off is higher than the Ato reservoir and the sump level.

Mine runs up high and empties into a piece of hose that its bigger in size and above the sump.

I'll see if I get a pic.

Thanks guys!
The green vinyl tubing coming out of the 10 gallon ATO goes up, and over the side of the sump, and ends well above the water level in the return section of the sump.
I guess I am just being very dense, cause I don't see anything else that I can do.

The water level of the sump dosent matter. Its the level of the top of water compared to the hose. You need it to end higher than the top off water. From what little i can see in the pic i would say try to bring the hose up higher and end it right at the top of the sump, or even better do what mbg75 shows.

Sorry, got a little busy with the grandchildren.

I did get the ATO/sump problem corrected. At least there hasn't been anymore back flowing.;)

I did finally make the lime water dosser, and yesterday afternoon I began dosing. When I started it up the PH was at 7.6, yesterday evening it was at 7.57 so I opened the valve a bit more. This morning it was at 7.6, now it is back down to 7.57.argggg

Sorry, haven't been around in a bit.. Got busy with life. Grandkids take precedence over everything..
(Mrs. Wages pickling lime)From yesterday afternoon to this evening 3/4 of gallon has been dosed with little to no improvement.

How much lime water can I dose safely in order to bring the PH back up, and then continue to drip dose to maintain?

I really don't know what happened, or when it happened. The PH in my tank use to be 8.3 for years. I hadn't checked it in while, and when I did I found it at 7.8. I honestly thought it was my digital ph tester, so I tested with the API, and the same. I then connected the ACjr's ph probe, and again I got a low reading of 7.7. By yesterday evening after 24hr period of dosing lime water via a drip line it was down to 7.57 so I opened up the valve a bit more, and this morning it was at 7.6.

I am so disgusted, and discouraged!!! To boot my aussie elegance is not doing to good. This is the first time the elegance is not opening.;(

I would get the PH up with something other than the kalk. You may want to get all your levels up then try to have the kalk keep them stable. Even with kalk in my top off i still have to dose but not as much. Doser pumps are in my future just not right now.

the most common reason for the ph to be low is lack of oxygen. you can try running the tube for the air intake on the skimmer out side so it gets fresh air or try opening the windos for a while. I dont know if that is the issue but its worth trying.

I hear you on the low pH thing. My last tank (AquaPod AP24) always had excellent pH. My current 46g bowfront had the same for a few months, then it dropped and I've been struggling to keep it high ever since. SOMETHING changed, I just can't figure out what.

Have you added anything new? Have you made any changes recently?

I dissolved 12oz of Arm & Hammer baking soda in a bowl with tank water, poured it into the return of the sump, turned the one, and only working fan in the canopy last night at around 10:45. Happy to report the PH is 8.0 this morning.;)
