I'm starting this thread to share my experiences with these clowns and for others to share theirs... (GLE) Genetic Limited Edition, just a little joke...
I transported mines just like everyone's were transported in a bucket with a air stone, in a warm vehicle. I did have one exception, I already had about 1.5 gallons of my display tanks water in the bucket prior to the 2 hours I spent talking with some members here at the swap about care of the new genetic wonder of the clown fish world and 2.5 hour trip home..I got my clowns home yesterday at about 5pm from the swap... Netted them and placed them in the tank after making sure that the lights wouldn't come on for an extra 2 hours... They separated for a good 5 hours as my lights were just coming on when I reached home at 5.. About 2 hours before the lights went out at midnight they came together and even ate some pellets(spectrum), lol...
These are my first clowns and I have some major decisions to make.. I have to decide if I want an anemone for these fish in my 320 gallon total water volume SPS dominated, low nutrient system.. After speaking with some of the (experienced)members here I have to wonder if (A) I add an anemone now that they are hanging out with each other, will one decide that it wants the anemone to itself and there for making the pair stop hanging out? (B) Will the anemone survive in a low nutrient system??? So the research goes on. For now I will go with my 10+ years experience in this hobby and watch closely as the days go by... I already tackled the first couple of hurdles, acclimation to new water with a 5 hour trip in my water mixed with the water from their old tank, acclimation to new tankmates without aggression done in the night cycle, and feeding..

This is only one days observation though, so all that has gone on so far may be nothing,,lol.. i will be up dating the thread on a weekly basis.. This should be a fun project... I finally have Nemos my daughter said to me yesterday,,,lol..

Clowns will host in other corals, large mushrooms, anthelia, duncans, and frog spawn, worked for my clowns. Unless you just want the anemone/clown combo you can provide the clowns a home, without the fear of a wondering anemone. Personally I would not add an anemone to a SPS dominated tank.

Thanks Jhale, I just realized sometimes the obvious decision is starring you right in the face... Do I really want to take the chance with a wandering anemone??NOOO.. So now I have to find a nice somewhat different type of Lps that is big enough for the 2 of them..

Hairy mushrooms are good hosts. I do have an anemone in the tank, and 2 of them host in it. The other 2 are not allowed into the anemone and they are hosting in the rhodactis (gaint hairy mushrooms) and hammer coral.

Since I add all four at once, I was able to get away with having more of them in the tank.

Yes, should be very hardy given how I treat them ;-).

Start posting pictures to document the evolution. For your records they were born on Aug 7, 2008.

Here is a picture of one of pair, that has been in my softie reef for about 1.5 months, and darkened up considerably.

And they are truly GLE...(Genetically Limited Edition), given that the male is now dead.

Take care of my babies, and keep me posted. Of the 56 that survived, 27 of them are in NYC area.

I would like to request that if you do pass these fish on to anyone else (for whatever reasons) please make sure that they are clearly labeled as hybrids.

T, when mine started hosting in the Duncans I was surprised. The Duncan heads stayed open and did not seem to mind the clown in them at all. The giant frilly mushrooms did seem to mind and did not open as fully as they could have, which was fine by me.
