Sure and good idea.

Tank Params:

Tank: 72 Gallon Bow Front
Salinity: Roughly SG 1.020
Temp: 68-70 degrees F
Sand Bed: 10"+
Live Rock: 40-50lbs
Skimmer: ASM G3 Gravity fed w/recirc mod
Return: Mag 7
Circulation: 2 Koralia #2
Lighting: 48" Aqualight with 3 6700K CF and 1 10000K CF
Chiller" Aqua Medic 1/6 HP

Livestock:

Oyster Toadfish (Opsanus tau)
Northern Sea Robin (Prionotus carolinus)
Northern Puffer (Sphoeroides maculatus)
Naked Goby (Gobiosoma bosci)
Pilot Fish (Naucrates ductor) Tropical Stray
Spiney Box Puffer (Chilomycterus schoepfi) Tropical Stray
Grubby (Myoxocephalus aenaeus)
Northern Pipefish (Syngnathus fuscus)
Lined Seahorse (Hippocampus erectus)
Long Clawed Hermit Crab (Pagurus longicarpus)
Mud Snail (Potamopyrgus antipodarum)
Periwinkle (Littorina littorea)
Muscle (Geukensia demissa)
Cunner (Tautogolabrus adspersus)
Asteriid Sea Starfish (Asterias forbesii)
Asian Shore Crabs (Hemigrapsus sanguineus)

All of these fish are tiny. The pipefish are the biggest in the tank so far. I'm going to have to move the puffers into one of my larger tanks when they grow out. All I want to add at this point is a couple of local urchins.

I went diving off Beach 8th in the Rockaways last weekend. There were a ton of urchins, starfish, seabass, flukes, groupers, blennies, a few butterflies and a foot long horseshoe crab. The urchins were everywhere.

To be able to catch all those local inhabitants are cool.
One day i should set up a mini 15 gallon local tank since i have caught mini seabass & mini fluke in my cages.
I actaully have a local spikey urchin in my sump right now. Looks awesome. I'll post a pic once i take a picture of it.
I did see a huge dead spikey puffer fish the size of a honeydew melon couple weeks ago floating in fire island inlet.

Dom - I'm open water certified and use a 7 mil wetsuit. Dry suits are for REALLY cold water or very deep diving and they cost about 4 times as much as a wet suit. SCUBA is a lot of fun, but very expensive. If I'd known I'd be dropping $2K to get started I probaly wouldn't have done it. Good thing I didn't find out till after I'd signed up for the lessons! ;)

Another expensive hobby.....LOL. I guess I don't need to get dry suit certified then.

Don't get caught with the fluke and bass. You'll be fined a good amount of moolah.

That reminds me of when I was feshwater fishing at Lake Ronkonkoma and I was out wading. I thought I was no where near a path and I turned and there was the park police. "Fishing license please?" I almost fell in the water. The guy scared the crap out of me. Good thing I had a license.

I know how the DEC officers work. I'm just saying it would be pretty tough to see the sea bass and fluke thats only 1".
As for freshwater fish, you need a license for that.
Interesting how people can catch random creatures in local waters. Im gonna purchase a seine net and be ready for my next fishing trip. Just not sure if i want to set up a 15g or a 5g tank yet.
