...so the aptasia battle is one waged daily, but it is getting better. bubble algae, on the other hand, seems to be coming back :(

but I got a wonderful hitchhiker from a blasto from the swap - a nice emerald crab -- hopefully he has a taste for bubble algae!!!!

so here's the latest full tank shot... (before i noticed that the powerheads had fallen off the wall again... don't worry - i've fixed that!)

Emerald Crab from Blastos huh? :scratchch

Thanks so much, NaCl - when this crab fell out of the big blasto, I was shocked! I remembered having seen some in your tank, though - so i figured she was a nice crab and was nearly 100% sure she was an emerald... I hope she has a taste for bubble algae - if she does, rest assured, she's found a VERY nice home!!!!!!

...having a great time finding a proper place for the non-photosynthesizing gorgonian (was supposed to be sleeping two hours ago....)

had to reposition the return line to flow on the "back" of the gorgonian (whom I shall hereafter refer to as "george") because i noticed this morning that the side that was in flow from a powerhead looked great, but the "back" side was sporting a thin veil of algae!!!!

I held it in flow of the return line to get the algae off (thanks for that piece of advice, BC), and then repositioned it on the other side of the tank where it now gets flow to both sides.

About fifteen minutes after I left it alone, maybe 20 polyps had extended - a good 18 more than i had seen in several days!!!! I'm hoping that by tomorrow, i'll see George all fuzzy and happy!

can't show pics now b/c the light is off, but they will be coming soon...

and see general discussion for a cute story about george and sara, my 5-year old....

Daisy i have a seaurchin that will possibly eat your bubble algae and your coraline...it is a small one...it came as a hitchhiker and spawned in my tank i had about 4 of them i gave 2 of them to different reefers and I kept two.....you can have one of them to try out and see if it will eat bubble algae in your tank, it ate it in mine, it also eats the coraline off the back wall and sides of tank...the urchin is black with yellow spines..let me know you can have him if you want....

Well, my tank is getting closer to my idea of what i want.

what i want is a tank that more closely replicates what i might see when diving. few fishes, variety of corals... though i probably want more corals than i would see in one place. I have given up on the concept of a biotope tank...

but i have known that i wanted a mixed reef, and i now have one. here is a first not great pic: thanks to jHale for the cap, to Pratreef for the orange digitata and to Moidol (via Pratreef, so i've been told) for the elkhorn!) I hope i don't kill them!!!

(I'm now dosing 2 part...) (also , the lights had already gone out, so the digi is already retracting somewhat for night)

Looking good t. Now lets see you shoot a pic with tank lights and no flash ;)

I'm starting to feel the tank. I think you are too. See what happens when tanks mature at their own Pace.......(or Pratt  ). They flourish.

Will take some more pics tonite. Joe is one FAST moving fish.... he comes out as a blur in most pics if I don't use a flash. :( I need a better camera. That is not going to happen for a while though. Perhaps I'll just have to invite one of you MRers with a hot camera to come shoot my tank... (not till it's a bit more full of corals, tho!)

...need a new camera, but here's the best i can do...

first is side view from the left (standing in kitchen doorway/ front door), then side view from the right (sitting at dining room table inside edge), then full tank shot!
