Bad Coffee spent a good hour aquascaping BLIND - and managed to do pretty much exactly what i had in mind... except that some of the rocks were upside down... but had he not done this, i'd be still staring at a box of rocks, not sure how or where to begin. THANKS BC!

But it looks like you have one of those hitchikers that goes after fish when the tops off. Better Kalk the furry thing before it becomes trouble.

tahl, the tank looks amazing. So nice and clean. Great rocks, the aqua scaping is very nice as well.
Don't forget to keep the pics coming as you update us in the coming weeks, months.

Thanks for the compliments, everyone - and without the MR Unit, NONE of this could have possibly happened!!! (I don't want to think about where my tank would be without Manhattan Reefs!!!)

that looks great! congrats to the crew :)

Tony that was too funny :D

just one thing, in the pic of the sump it looks like there is a wave maker on the floor of the stand.
raise it up off the floor to keep it away from water.

Thanks so much for all your praise!

jhale - the wavemaker is actually off the floor. i wasn't done with all the placement stuff when i took the pics. thanks for mentioning it, though.

i took a hammer to one of my oldest rocks in the hopes of getting it to the shape I wanted it, but in the end, had to put it in the sump. It was so dense that I couldn't crack it... :( oh well.

local thoughts on the tank - the cats don't go near it - I think it's because it makes gurgling noises which they haven't learned to ignore or trust yet.

my older daughter thinks is cool but also believes the sand is actually sugar. my younger daughter does not like it because she says it looks "too clean..." she is SO going to be a reef-nut!!! :)

my students (i teach in my home quite a bit) have mixed reactions - the kids think it's amazing and i have to seat them with their back to the tank in order to get any studying done. the adults i teach look at it and talk only about how much work it must be...

...can't wait to fill it with coral and fishies!!!

in preparation to make a KathyC special covering for my tank... here's the top of the tank - note the bracing in the center...
