Well i just found out my phosphate source...... I am gettin ready to do a WC and I decided hey LM check for the hell of it my WC water for PO4 and BOOM on my hanna test it was at .18 !!!!!!!!!! Now what do I do I have 400g of salt here this is INSANE !!!!!!!! I am using the IO/oceanic 50-50 mixture. I spent the last of my spennding cash for the week on the 2 new buckets yesterday now i have to find a way to get something else but what brand I used to use the seachem reef salt on my 180 but fopund out the Borate that they use on it gives a false Alkalinity reading so im staying away from that and TMP I hear horror stories about from the PO4 in it causing HA. I am in a lost of words here :(

I had PO4 issues with oceanic salt in the past and I know quite a few other guys who had PO4 problems with that salt as well. IMO stick with the time proven salts like IO, Reef Crystals, and TM. These salts work and have more stable results in each batch. If you want a higher alk, mag, or cal just buffer to your needs. It only costs pennies to buffer the salt with home products.

Nick, I've been using Oceanic since day one in my tank (almost three years now). I've been battling HA since about 2 years ago. I didn't even think that the source could be from the salt. I'll be following your findings VERY closely. Thanks for the insight.

Well I just tested my PO4 in my water going into my RO/DI and its at 1.79 so I am guessing the .16 coming out on a 1 TDS reading is not all that bad. I hoping to get my new filters by friday and start doing some WC this weekend and next week to get this PO4 down
