Last FTS for the time being. About to redo the tank a bit. Move some stuff around, make room for other corals. Going to be trying out a new MH bulb. Went with an XM10K DE bulb. Should be here by the end of this week. :)

Holy freakin undata!!!! David you did an amazing job with this tank . I admire your coral selection. All these new aussie corals have me wanting to add a million things. I have to follow your approach a little more. I have the same fixture and I've been playing around with different halide bulbs. With the geismann electronic ballast, bulbs are burning different colors that I had in the past with my PFO HQI's . My favorite 250w DE bulb used to be a 20k helios, which became 20k EVC. This bulb is too blue in the Giesmann.

IMO the 10k XM is a little too white but I haven't tried it on this ballast so maybe it will look better. Believe it or not the best color I have seen on this ballast is a 14k Sunpaq bulb. I know it's a poor brand but the color is very good. The bulb itself is not as white as a 10k and not as blue as a 14k. I run it with 3 blue+ and 1 fiji purple. I get a good balance of color. Your undata would look insane under this combo.

Good to see you posting David :) and LMK if you upgrade. I may want to transfer my 60 into your 90 ;)

Thanks Rich *aka PodPIMP* ;) I was so sad to see that solana go. One of the finest looking reef tanks around, big or small. It was great to see you set up another system though, I am sure in just a few short months you will outdo yourself! Also, funny thing that Undata, I had just broken off a HUGE chunk of it to take to the LFS, doesn't look like I made much of a dent in it.

I have been eyeing those Aussie colonies for a while now. Liveaquaria gets an absolute ridiculous assortment, but you have to be so quick to check out. So many big players just waiting for that update. lol.

I have been using the Ushio 20K for a while now, I don't mind the bulb, I just don't love the bulb and the color I am getting from it. We'll see how the XM works out, I will get some BETTER pictures when I install it, and let it burn in a bit. I also have to change out my T-5's so I will definitely be taking up your suggestion of bulb choices!

I will definitely let you know if I upgrade this system, which I probably will. Sooner rather than later!

I just saw this post, David! Things are going well. I finally got my Solana up and running this weekend. I'm going SPS dominant this time around. Should be fun. :lol2:

Your tank is looking great. Congrats.

No problem Eric. lol. I just saw you set up a solana! That's awesome!!! I have always loved those little tanks. Just never owned one (solana) personally. I loved my 29G BioCube when I had it!

Thanks, this tank got off to such a rough start. Hard to believe it now, but I had hair algae coming out from my SAND BED. My rock looked like a chia pet! So embarrassing. Then the wave of cotton candy algae. That was a PITA to get rid of. lol

Another photo I had taken. Have had this piece for roughly 3 1/2 months now, it's been doing very well, with a decent amount of new growth. Picked it up randomly from Aquarium Village.

Flame Wrasse (has no fear when I work around the tank. The fish loves to eat out of my hand or will go right into the net and pick at the mysis shrimp)

I finally got my 250W XM 10K bulb (HQI) ... it's a bit on the white/yellow side ... it's not as bad as some 10K's I have seen and tried in the past.

I will be curious to see the growth I get from it if anything at all.

The growth from a 10K bulb is amazing. Now if you really want to see some amazing growth pick up an Iwasaki 6500K. Crazy

Oh of course! :) The growth will definitely be there with the 10K. I meant as far as the color that I am getting, I can live with it with the way it looks now.

6500K ... oh man ... I remember reading someone's comment about them ... "It looks like someone peed in my tank." :splitspin

The new 10K bulbs are a lot more white/blue than the bulbs of years ago. I personally love the look of a 10 K tank. I will say though I have run 20K Radiums and the growth/look was very impressive. Currently have a 250w 20K Ushio I am waiting to run that looks very promising also.
