Great move. I applaud your acceptance of sound advice.

Only thing is, you won't even know how grateful you are that you had it drilled because of the peace of mind you'll be experiencing. You'll have to read other peoples horror stories to know how smart you are ;)

As long as you're not trying to return more water than your drain line can handle. Remember, a 1" drain can only accommodate 600 gph of water. So if your two 3/4" returns bring LESS than 600 gph back to the tank you'll be ok. Otherwise I'd recommend increasing the size of the drain to 1.5"

tough one to answer. depends on what you intend to keep in your tank as well as how you aquascape your tank. the majority of people use at least 2 powerheads.

When do you plan on drilling your tank? Do you have the equipment?

I'm waiting for the drill bits I've ordered from HK to arrive to drill mine, much to the amusement of many.

think you should put the ball valve between the sump and the union...so you can remove the pump without having to drain your sump.

And for the bulkhead part of your plumbing...can you take off that 90 degree hose barb insert and just insert a pvc pipe into the bulkhead instead?
