And for the bulkhead part of your plumbing...can you take off that 90 degree hose barb insert and just insert a pvc pipe into the bulkhead instead?

yeah i was thinking to replace those with this:

but the regular 90 degree elbow doesnt fit unless i use those on top.

Too many 90's between your return pump and your return bulkhead. You'll be adding a lot of back pressure with them. Each 90 adds approximately one foot of head pressure.

UPDATED:

i gotta add a long pipe and a threaded to connect between my pump and union.

on the overflow side, im changing my plan little bit. i was thinking what if i let the water drain from the top instead of connecting to the bulkhead.

the blue line is 45 degrees.

tell me if anything needs to be correct

I reccomend a durso on the drain right after the bulkhead on the back of the tank. also instead of a straight strainer on the drain try a street elbow with the strainer attached. this will allow y ou to adjust the water height.

That looks much better. Nice.
You just might need to add a piece of PVC to the top of the 'T' on the durso, then the cap.

oh yea make sure your sump can handle the siphon from your tank when you turn off your pump
