I personally would run the quiet one in the sump, they are not really designed for external use. They actually run cooler in the water.

Also, why not drop the skimmer into the sump? Get it out of site!

i would put a union/valve between the quietone and the sump so you can remove for maintance if need.

I would also put the skimmer in the sump or atleast hang it off the sump to get it out of sight

You should put the ball valve on the return pump right next to the union. When you shut it down for maintenance, all the water between the ball valve and the union will spill out, hopefully not on the floor.

I agree with the ball valve and union between the pump and the sump. Ease of maintenance.

The skimmer looks like it would fit on the back side of the sump (same way you have it on the back of the tank).

I would make sure you don't close the ball valve on your overflow at all. Good place to have a flood.

You didn't support any of your overflow plumbing with straps. The weight of the pvc (filled with water) is being supported on your two bulkheads. Another recipe for disaster.

drill you tank. do not use the external hang on overflow. you'll sleep a lot better at night knowing your tank is less likely to cause a flood.

craig thanks for the concern i dont really have the patient and the money so i took this chance. haha

The hang on overflow probably costs more than most of the vendors on MR charge for drilling. Sell it and use some of the funds to have the tank drilled. If there's one learning I can give from my experience it would be to have a tank drilled from day 1.

Just my 2 cents.

do u have any data to support this?

they run cooler because they're heating up your tank water.

True, however, if you read the User's Manual, there is internal cooling chambers for wet or dry applications.

Since, there is no fan on the pump, it will inevitably transfer the heat into the water anyway or just burn the pump.

I would put the pump in the second chamber and just plug up that bulkhead.

Yes, it will add a little bit of heat to water, however, if you are running MHs you may need a chiller anyway.

I like the simplicity of your setup.

After having my 55 gallon set up for like 2 years & never running a sump, now I decide to do one. But I'm drilling my tank.

Since your tank is empty you may wish to consider drilling & installing an internal overflow.
