So these are the second generation clowns?

I don't know how you would quantify the generation. Its more like 1.5 generation.

This is the result of the back crossing the first generation black photon with its mother. I know it sounds incestuous, but fish breeders often do it to lock in strains etc. So these basically have 3/4 Onyx Perc blood and 1/4 black ocellaris. I just did it as an experiment, since the original father of the black photons died, and I wanted to see if the first generation black photons were fertile.

I gave some of these 1.5 generation ones to Jim, and he tells me that his have turned significantly black. I hope he posts pics so I can see what these are evolving into.

There should be bunch of original black photons floating around in MR since that was the only place I sold them, other than Live Aquaria. I am very curious to see if the original black photons have spawned for anyone. The pairs I held on to have not spawned yet for me.

Hey Sanjay,

I have a first generation pair. Haven't seen them do the hokey pokey yet but they are maturing well. They even found a rock. Trying to get them to spawn. I'm going to transfer them over to a different tank with just LR and an anemone see if it will help at some point or sell them and have somebody else try lol.

Awesome, thanks for the clarification. Sadly, I lost my pair of original GLE Photon clowns when my tank crashed last year. Maybe I'll necrobump that thread about the clowns and see if people have new photos!

Teddy, I have a tank with only LR and some coral, no fish, perfect breeding ground. LMK if you want to give it a shot. I would LOVE to try. I will put on some nice music, light some candles around the tank, play "Finding Nemo" for them, then give them some privacy...

Sanjay,

I have 3 pairs that are now dancing and doing the things that mated clowns do. Not laying eggs just yet, but the 3 pair of them are rocking and rolling right now. First 2 photos and second two photos are pairs. note the second pair are both misbars (intentional)

I only have pictures of the 2 pairs that changed significantly and aren't even fully grown yet. The third pair is in my son's 24g nano in his room and, well, they are all sleeping. The third pair are in the tank alone and have tiles to lay eggs and a tank all to themselves. They are not, however, as black as the other two pairs which are in community tanks. An interesting progression I might add. They have started to show darker colors around the center stripe and I expect they will fully color as well.

I also have a mated (and laying eggs) pair of yellow striped maroon clowns. They were transported from a friends tank about 2 weeks ago and I am waiting for them to lay the eggs so I can get started with my part of the project.

I'll see if I can get pics of them soon. Sorry for that last blurry - I was rushing.

In the meantime, enjoy these!!

Jim

Jim:

Thanks for posting the pics. Wow.. yours have really colored up and look very interesting. I think separating them out as pairs, and putting them in a better environment (like a reef tank) has helped them get their colors.

I really l like how they look !!. Very Unique. Can I copy those pics and use them on another board. ? What tag should I use to give you credit for pics ?
