Ack! That octopus needs a place to hide, he will be a lot less stressed. You can put a big piece of rock and some sand in there for him to build a den or something. Even an aluminum can would be nice for him to take a break.

Most likely a vulgaris, although the coloration indicates something closer to a bimac.

Octopus eat constantly in the wild since most only live about 2 yrs and can assimilate 80% of the mass they consume. That mystery is not too large of a prey item for it either. Ocs know they won't be able to finish it but are smart enough to know they can rip off as much as they need and leave the rest. If anyone wants to post a link to that video of the octopus in the shark display at that public aquarium again, now is the time lol.

can all octopus bite? does it hurt?

Yes they all can bite and it doesn't tickle. Some species are more aggressive then others. I think it is generally believed that all Octopuses have a little toxin in their bite but most are harmless to humans (the most dangerous being the Blue Ring Octo; that one will kill you). But then again, Why take a chance?
