Claritan only works on a few people. When it was developed, the company was looking for an antihistamine that wasn't sedating, like the old line drugs (Benadryl, etc.). Turned out that at the most effective dose, Claritan was sedating. So it was marketed at 1/4 the most effective dose. So for most people, myself included, Claritan is ineffective. But for those people sensitive enough, it can be effective. I've been getting allergy shots for 25 years. Allergy patterns change as you age...I have also found that my allergic responses vary from year to year independently of the severity of the season...I have gone through some severe pollen seasons with less symptoms than usual, and others that were less severe with worse symptoms. (Right now my sinuses are a mess.) Interestingly enough, my tests say that I am severely allergic to ragweed, yet every year my allergies improve in August and beyond, when ragweed peaks. I'm at my worst in April, when the trees peak, and again in June when its the grasses. But my sinuses find something to upset me with at all times of year.
