The commercial boats are not affected by any of the laws, They get to keep what they catch, no matter if it's a 6" fluke or a 30" fluke. The pleasure boats, which I assume you mean your personal boat will only be affected if you allow it to. I'm not talking about the liscense but rather the enjoyment of fishing itself. The idea behind noaa's fight for this, is due to the lack of large fish that use to be every where. This is what they are using as the back bone of their argueements. Not that there are a million 22" Fluke but the fact there are only ten 30" fluke.

huh we caught some of the biggest stripers, fluke and blackfish we ever caught this year.guys who run charters need to pay a blanket fee which raises the fare per customer and they lose alot of business because of the fee.for a free country we sure have to pay alot to do what should be a right.i know i pay 65 a year for a sportsman license every year and i had to pay for my initial safety courses.

i agree with a few folks on here who share differing opinions. on one hand i agree, you shouldnt have to pay to enjoy nature. on the other hand, the money does usually go to conservation and environmental management efforts so i have no qualms about paying....but an extra 11 bucks for a trout stamp really irks me if i cant catch one all year...beh

The money goes to the DEC http://www.dec.ny.gov/permits/54950.html

"Aiming to keep revenue in New York to fund state conservation programs rather than sending the money to the federal government, New York lawmakers approved the state recreational marine fishing license."

Your confusing the federal regulation and the state license.

Basically if you don't pay the State for the license and that gets removed you will be paying the federal government. Making the fee leave the state and not be used. Don't sign this thing its misleading.

I haven't had the time to go fishing in some years now (that WILL change and SOON!), so reading through this thread got me a bit depressed. How the heck did something like fishing in the ocean turn into such a complicated issue? We've become such a bureacratic country it's threatening everything we do. Seems like every time you turn around there's a law or fee that sprouts up. It has to stop.

This is not progress.

I agree there all the traxes ectera WE pay seem to be squandered on high salaries of officials and other useless items when our nations infrastructure is falling apart. I don't mind paying as long as some sort of progress is being made. Roads full of potholes, bridges in the worst conditions, poor snow removal, public schools geting funds cut yet we pay more each and every year.

The government is spending more and more so they have to get it from somewhere. Well the hit the smokers the hardest $5.85 in tax per pack and they say it is because they want us to quit LMAO if we did they would tax something else

The issue I have with this petition is it is for the NYS Saltwater License which is $10 for residents in which the $10 is spent by the NYSDEC if we did not have this license then the federal govt. would get $15. So in petitioning to get rid of the state licensing it would actually hurt us as you would then have to pay federal registration as well as add the funds to the federal pocket for use as they wish.
