More like 100% are from puppy mills or back yard breeders. No REPUTABLE breeder will sell their dogs to a pet store.

Join a breed specific forum and do your research. A dog is not as disposable as fish.

I myself am looking for a puppy. My wife and I just bought our home a few months ago and never thought we would get a puppy. We went out last sat to look for a new fish store that just opened in garden city and ended up walking into this puppy store by mistake. Well we fell in love with a puppy. She is a mini aussie Shepard. They gave us all the information on her and let me just say only half of the information on her was correct. We didn't buy her because we knew nothing about this breed and was not looking for a dog just yet. So we went home did some research and found out that puppy stores are out of there minds with prices alone and they really dont know what they are selling. When we asked how much she was they said 1,700.00, and we thought about it for a good hour because we were Falling in love with this puppy by the second. When we told them we were going to think about it they said we can give her to u for 1,500.00 we still said we want to think about this. Then they said they would give her to us for 1,300.00 but that was their bottom line on her. Well the money was not an issue for us. Like I said we weren't looking for a puppy. So we left the store feeling like we wanted her and decided to go home and research her. We found breeders all over selling the breed starting at 350.00 to 700.00 that really is a big difference in price. I myself will NEVER walk into another puppy store again. I also read that 87 percent of puppy's from stores are sick or will become sick. I would stay away. And after all the research we did we are only going to adopt now. for every puppy bought 5 are put down. Go adopt and save a life. If you buy a puppy, adopt a puppy they are all going to love you the same. So adopt only...

thank you for praying for all dog stores to go out of business and being more broke then this world already is. I do wish most pet store who lie to be more honest where they come from.

And if you think about it, sadly...those dogs in puppy mills...are probably treated better in the pet store then at that puppy mill. At least they get food and shelter at the store... you would rather them live at the mill? I know the mills should not exist at all, but since they do, you would rather them suffer there? Or give them a chance in the real world...which pet stores try to do?

Dude, no offense but you sound like you have no clue what your talking about. NY Animal Care and Control and all city shelters get dogs off the street and brought in.
Puppy Mills are hell on earth for dogs (as are city shelters) but seriously you should probably research a bit more.

If a pet store makes it money from selling puppy mill dogs then I certainly do want it out of business as the people only care about 1 thing, MONEY

Shelters all over us certainly can and a good amount do. Keith mills from the ASPCA, deena debrowski from the humane soc. and john something don't remember his last name, from the humane soc all have reports from shelters owning and admitting to shelters getting puppy mill dogs. No, not all or most get then, but a good amount yes.

And you want to know why I know its not all pet stores who get dogs from puppy mills? because like I said we don't. My Mom sells dogs, everyone she gets Is USDA licenced and state registered. Every 2 months the board of health checks up on them. Every dog that sells, we offer even the address and phone number of the breeders just so buying customers and check and not just take our word about it.

And for the money, all pet stores are not in it for money. We buy a dog for say 400 bucks, it sells for 550. Not even double! So its not all about the money...

Ok I know i said I wouldn't but alot of those USDA places are puppy mills and they have freaking movies on it and investigations currently going on
