Hello, I was just wondering. I am a criminal justice major and I am finishing up my year deal at school and have already taken the test and am on the list for employment. Just wondering though, right now I am off of work and wanted to know if you knew of any type of jobs open right now that I oculd try getting to enhance my chances on the force or to help with expericence. But like I said, I don't have all my credits so I don;t know what I qualify for. Thank you all for your help and feel free to pm me :thanks:

I wouldnt worry about what type of work just work.
as long as you meet the requirments you shouldnt worry
now a days it's much easier to get the job when I took the test in 1982 I took it with 40,000 others waited almost 4 years got pushed back 6 months till i got on in 1986.

good job it's what you make of it

my stepson took the test did his investigation and got called within 18 months
he turned it down:banghead:

you'll never get rich be prepared to work a second job

do your twenty and move on...
oh study take every promotional exam it's a bosses' job

good luck be safe

Steve where you located?

Nassau might be another option. Last I looked they only required 32 credits. Pay is higher then the city... Of course Suffolk would be nice, but they recently started pulling from their list, not sure when either will have another test. The last Suffolk test was a few thousand applicants. So it it pretty competative. I don't think Suffolk requires any College, at least they didnt.

As for jobs giving you an advantage, none that I know of with the exception of the military and getting a "Veteran" status... but just because you go away for a year doesnt mean you get to apply that to the test... only certain conflicts / actions were creditable.

You better have about $3000 saved up to cover all of your expenses. Uniforms and supplies are a must have(trust me they check) and you pay for everything. You could have 60 college credits in german cooking and irish folk dance as long as you have 60 they can't turn you down. I would just find a steady job and take it as it comes.

Isn't it the top pay for PO still 50K?

Isn't the top pay for PO is still 50K for the new recruits who are starting at a lower salary? Of course, a MTA driver can have 60K+ though.

It's also impossible without residency to get on in LI. The test fee's are also astronomical on LI.

sorry but for a college education you are really selling yourself out at starting out @ 25,000. You are nuts. there are other things that you are not aware of that you will hate,. but then again there are things that you will love. If you get on that job you better get your rearend to studing because at that pay and you are limited at off duty jobs you better read the whole thing before you go through with it. if you want some exp. you can call the DA's office and work as an intern also the cadet corp of the nypd if you are a minority will give you a paid job and money towards your tuition if you agree to give them 2 years just an FYI

Yup. 12 1/3 to go can't wait. Steveo no matter what you do if you get hired by nyc keep taking all the tests you can up in your area and if they call you, go.

If you have to stay in NYC either study and get promoted or stay a cop and kill em in OT.

The most important thing if you have to stay in NYC do your 20 and get out!!

retired 11yrs and change on april 30th disability. dude the cadet corps is the way to go. its a shame that in order to get in there and you are white ( you need a phone call) i was lucky i had kellys , mayor dinkins and his 1st lt. that got me in, they wouldnt remeber me now bit i am no longer there and yes i earned that extra day and i was paid the whole time in the academy. they paid for my tution and i had a job with hours that i made for myself at a competitive wage. i wouldnt trade that for the world
