Guardian, that paycheck must really suck? At least in 5 months you get a little jump up in pay.

yeah but unfortunatly im not one of those military types. I don't knock the guys who go and do there thing and serve there coountry. But I don't feel the military is the greatest thing. I just have seen way to many false promises stories. But I don't want to offened any of the military people. Its takes a good set to go and fight for people who don't care about you.

of course the military isnt a perfect job but its what you make of it. climb the ranks, do your 20 yrs and in the end you'll have two pensions. one from the PD and the military. Plus for those thinking of joining the pd in addition to the crap pay i get, I get the GI bill. Like everyone says about the second job military is the second, when i finish my probation i'll be getting my 3rd job on the side.

GOD I PRAY I GET PUT IN TRANSIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

join the reserves. then the NYPD. so you get called to go to iraq and get paid by the city and the military.

Aye, can really make decent money this way. You need to return to the PD within 30 days upon returning home, which is kind of lame after being out of the country for so long. But I guess they are paying you, so they have you by the ....

Not really the safest thing either...

I was given a medical from my Reserve MP unit in Oct 04 (14 years). The unit shipped out to Abu Ghraib. (the prison in baghdad in dec 04.) . They lost a friend and the first NYPD officer killed in Iraq (James McNaughten).

I'm not sure if Iraq will get you your "Veteran" status either... on the basis of applying it to "Veteran Credits" on your test (But you would be a Veteran). . If you chose this route, don't bother until you do Officers Candidate School... and go as an officer at least. If you have the credits, it wouldn't make sense.
