From a marketing standpoint, a totm would probably be a good idea as I personally would create a habit of going to the main page of MR more often. totm is the FIRST thing I look at when i visit other reef sites. I probably don't have to say this but that would = higher cpm, clickthroughs, etc -> $$

This was the problem in the past-- getting members to submit quality photographs and write-ups or having the man-power to get around and do it for them.
Having a TOTM with bad photos/write-ups is far worse than not having one at all.

Agreed....However, there are some amazing photographers on this forum that can help in this department. In addition, I feel these tanks are an inspiration to many and also help people learn diferent methods of maintaining succesful reefs.

This comes up here at least once a year or so. Once people realize how much work it actually is, the idea usually gets buried for another year or so.
Let's say you are going to take photos... are you going to drive to central NJ to get them? Who's going to interview the winner and write it up? Who's going to upload to the site, and create the initial format for the page?
Now what happens when one of these people can't do it, or decides they don't want to anymore?

I don't think anyone disagrees, but someone needs to own the project and make it happen in a consistent, and high quality way. To do so is more work than you might think. Anyone interested in doing this seriously should send a note to the admin.
How does the picture under "Welcome to Manhattan Reefs" on the main page get chosen? By the way, I agree a totm would be nice, and would give me some ideas for my own tank as well, but it does require huge commitment.
well ive got time, er sort of, it wont be that hard to do with a small team, there are ppl in every "reagion" that can take good pictures, and the write up isnt that hard, the questions can be asked and the responses recorded verbally, and the written down. its possible, just not if im the only one.

The sort of part is where they've run into problems in the past.
