Im telling you it was on the news no more sales of salvage cars in nyc .
Now if the car is from PA or other state then you can register it in nyc and get a clean title . my friend had a salvage yard and now he cant sell them only as part now . Now he buys used cars .
Call DMV and find out for sure .

Not sure about NYC, but we have gotten quite a few salvaged cars over the years. Between my father and I we have gotten a first year Mitsu Montero, early 90's Saab Turbo, 1996 Audi TT, 1997 MB E300, 2008 MB E350, 1998 BMW 325, 2008 BMW 335XI, 2008 MB SL550

We have never had a problem with any of them that we attributed to being salvaged. For example, My TT threw a CEL, and it was due to a well known problem that was fixed for free.

We drove the Saab till it died, Mitsu was sold to my uncle and is still being used, TT was totalled, (which was my bad), MB E350 is being used, as is the E300 and the SL550; BMW 325 was rear ended, and the 335 Xi is my sister in laws.

Best thing to look for is something that didn't get bad structural damage. Theft recoveries can be best cause if it was just joyridden once, you prob will be ok.

If you want the website for the guys we go to, PM me. They used to be based in the Bx, but moved to a bigger lot in Patterson.

PS. The last car we got was the BMW 335XI and the MB E350 in the last 2 years. we have built a very good rapore(sp?) with them, and they aren't shady.

First what the damage on the vehicle are the air bag deployed if so the air bags have to be dealer and fully functional all parts you buy have to have a recipit and it take 6m for you to get it inspected .And you cant drive it there you have to have it towed First bring a person with you that does body repair to give you a estimate .So if he tells you $3000 to fix have $7000 ready to spend. Is its worth it its depends what the car is worth in good condition and how much they wont for the car the way it is and do you have the time and money for this . Just because the body look like it need to be fix doent mean it has any other problems..

I think the idea is not to buy and resell though. We have bought our cars to drive and use. Our oldest most used is the 1997 MB E300. It's got easily over 200K miles on it. It's may father's daily driver. He drives to the Bronx and back, not to mention whatever other errands he does around town. All he needs to do is basic maintenance for the most part. I think it is worth it if you are planning to own and not sell in 5 years cause you are bored with it.

NYC I think you need to just save your money and buy a clean titled car- unless you have a shop like wonder does- but from your last thread about looking for someone to do the work on your honda you dont. If you have no knowledge on how to work on them, a salvage can be a long headache for you. In my eyes your flirting with disaster with a salvaged car.

Your 19 and the honda is your first car---2 ingredients for you spending more money in the long run for a salvaged car than you would have for a clean titled car to in the end only have an expensive salvage.

Just my opinion.

Not true, there still is salvage titles, and no it isnt worth buying one and fixing, they dont total a car out till it hits 75% of the value of the car and up to a %100 on cars 2000 and older. Usually if it is totalled it has some heavy collision to it that would need frame work ect, as well once the car is done you need all the reciepts and have to take it to the county to be inspected and still might not pass

Never everrrrr buy a flood car. We bought a lexus (of all things) in my mid 90's at auction for about 6k, we dumped over 12k into the cars electronics, engine, interior, you name it. We were never able to get the electrical gremlins to go away. Ended up selling it for 7k to an uncle. On the other hand, we have a 05 camry that was totaled that we've put in about 60k miles and haven't had a single issue. Just make sure you will be keeping for a long time because selling a salvage car is very hard.

Dont waste your money If you do get it can you aford to do a tune up on that car it the V6 . The intake is covering the back plug your looking at $450 to 500 at a shop for a tune up on this car and dont forget the timing belt . On those car theres no slacking on the timing belt on that motor . At less the honda if the belt snaps your motor will still be good . On the mistu if that belt snaps bye bye valves that a 3k Job to fix . Do some research on maintenance on a car before you buy it . That the problem now adays thay buy a Benze and dont now it cost $125 for a oil change. Research first..
