Don't buy a TV online because you can't see it? Dude... I hope you're kidding. Go into the store and look at it... then order online because you'll save hundreds.

The only risk you run is dead pixels or damaged bulb on plasma. But there's always a policy on this.

I personaly like shopping at 6th ave electronics. They will drop the price in a heartbeat, and the price they have listed is usually already lower than other store prices. I would stay away from panasonic though, I had a 32" plasma from them, it died within 2 months. They took it back, died again within 2 weeks, the third time they came to my house to fix it and to test my outlets. Needless to say the TV died again in a month, They then replaced it with a brand new TV. It died within 2 months. They gave me money back I bought a SONY and it is alive and doing well for quite sometime now.

ok, after all of the different discussions (some of the tech stuff was way over my head) I am leaning towards a Samsung 58" plasma, model 58B550. The tv is going to go downstairs with very little natural light, 600mh, etc. I live in Missouri, so prices might be a bit off, but BestBuy says that I can get it for $1500, local tv store has it for $1700. Thoughts?

Try to haggle with the local tv store. Tell them up front that you can get it at Best Buy for $1500 plus shipping, and some other goodies, and if they don't match or beat the price you'll just go to Best Buy.
Conversely you could also haggle a bit with Best Buy, maybe get them to throw in an extended warranty for free. (Though you'll have less room to maneuver here, if you don't have anywhere else to turn)

Yea who wants to deal w/ that shyt? You are all happy to get your new tv you wait 2 weeks then it arrives damaged and they don't want to replace it. You will not save hundreds because the shipping will probably cost you $200!

NO THANKS buy it AT THE STORE..take it home in your car BAM instant gratification. If you find a cheaper price online all you have to do is go to best buy or sears etc and they MATCH the price..no shipping no waiting. I think PC's does that also. Circuit city used to beat an advertised price by 10%. I think they were the only store that did that.

i bought 1 led/lcd tv and 1 plasma hdtv from amazon.com, after doing my research in bestbuy. Bestbuy would not match the amazon price so i got it on amazon and it was significantly cheaper.
I would do it again when i buy another 55" samsung 240hz led

That's why you shop around... Me and at least 10 of my other friends recieved our TV's within 4 days on seperate occassions. Free Shipping. No Tax. No Dead Pixels.

They do not match the price unless it's in a printed ad. It also depends on which store/manager you deal with. I ordered from Frys in case you were interested.

I used to work at best buy and 6th avenue and we would only match prices from authorized dealers people get carried away with ads from the internet lol bringing in ads from craigslist lol but i worked at 6th ave electronics for 4 years and i am not going to lie the customer service used to suck (anywhere were its commissioned based and you are trying to price match) the service will suck but from what i know it has gotten alot better and when i worked there LED technology was just new and the cheapest 42 inch LED tv was $12,000 but now it has gone down alot, Plasmas at one point were going to be discontinued because the price of LCD's were so cheap and Plasmas were still high.
