It started when the microwave broke..worn out most likely as it gets a LOT of use at my house...
The act of replacing it turned into...well, why not just redo the kitchen?
Stupid idea.
I did the kitchen back in 1987. Had decided at that point it needed to be white - laminate everywhere! Refaced all of the cabinets (learned a lot about routers!), new ceramic tile floor (white of course, another incredibly stupid idea...) found out I had an aneurysm about 3/4 of the way through the work. Got that fixed (ok, that is a bit of an understatement..lol) took 6 months before I could deal with the vibration of the router again and finally finished up the job.
It turned out very nice :)

So here we are in 2009 and the decision is made we are sick to death of looking at a white kitchen, we need color! We need wood in there! We need a new floor!
..and maybe take out those darned soffits too..and lower the cabinets so I can reach more than just the bottom shelf?

5 weeks of no kitchen sink, or stove (yippee :)) New microwave (of course), new dishwasher, kept the fridge & range and ceiling (well, mostly except for the huge holes where the soffits had been), tore the rest of it to hell. Out came the soffits, floor, window, walls....oy.
The fridge was in the living room, the range in the dining room, the dining room table became a workbench (need to replace that anyway..)..and I shopped.
I am soooo sick of shopping.
Lists of lists..
By the time most of the new cabinets and appliances were at the house so we could start the project the living room sofa was 12 feet away from the wall and the pile of 'stuff' occupied an area 12 x 12' and clear up to the ceiling.

Did I mention the paint? I'd found a gallon of 'oops' paint at a local store and loved the color. I didn't mention it to my family, but my intent was to design the kitchen around this $6 bargain!
The name of the color was 'coral'..need I say more? :spin:
When I finally did put it on the walls (where the soffits used to be..) they kinda looked at it and asked why I painted it pink...argh!
They have gotten used to it :)

Anyway, it isn't quite finished yet. The wallpaper finally came in today and I'll get that done by the weekend and I have more wood trim to install yet, but it's almost done..some pics..

Not sure what I did to this pic but it is clearly backwards as the wall to the right is actually on the left..try and ignore that as it makes no sense in looking at the rest of the pics

Progress! The new flooring is down and the new 48" window is in. I have natural light now!! (btw the kitchen is a little over 13 x 9')

Some of the upper cabinets are in place and who did that great job plastering? (me :))

Ahhh..the coral paint has been added!
I'm lovin my new black sink :) The perspective doesn't help here - there is close to 20' of counterspace in there now, but I have no energy left to cook :(

Doesn't everyone keep a compound mitre saw on their dining room table? The bulk of the supplies has now moved into the dining room, needed the sofa back in place to be able to watch the Yankees...

A bunch more pics to add..the backsplash (1900 tiny little bricks), the wallpaper of course...

...tomorrow for that, I need sleep more than anything before we start the bathrooms...

Kat, the kitchen looks great! Reminds me of the kitchen I put in my old house. Everything but the counter top, and the white appliances that is.lol My counter top was a granite look a like, and the appliances were black.;) Oh, and my walls were "Dry Palm Green".:) You choose the same cabinets & floor as I did.

The guys did a great job, I may burrow them from you for the kitchen here.;)lol
