Could someone inform me of where to get crabbing traps/nets in the city? I'm planning to crab somewhere in long island this weekend.

TIA

Not so cheap at tackle shop at location either. try couple of tackle shop on northern blvd. One b/n prince st and colloege point blvd and on nothern near Murray Hills(?) Try sports Authority/Mo in fishing dept also.

Google NYS DEC for regulation as DEC officers/rangers will go around check on what you catch. Can be costly even unintentional, not to mention possible time loss to appear at court. I read a story from West Coast where man was being processed to be deported even as legal resident since violated federal laws when caught one too many clams.

Have fun.

Agreed! The DEC don't fool around anymore. Take it from someone who runs fishing boats for a living  Be sure to check the crab regs for the species and don't keep egg filled females :)

Another thing to keep in mind when you go crabbing....local town regulations can be different from state DEC regulations. For example, in Southold Town waters it is illegal to keep any female crab. DEC allows females if they are of legal size and not carrying eggs, but in Southold its males only. Other towns may also have additional rules.
