go apple compters!! (i think)
have a dual 2.7GHz PowerPC G5 computer, it smokes literally.
been in the shop for 2 weeks, just about everything replaced but the case.
works fine for now.
However I do own an Ipod, and an airport express. and use a g4 at work, and i'm using my roommates g4 powerbook right now. so i can't put them down completely!
Happened again! Apples top of the line G5 tower is a lemon.
Tekserve is going through the drill again - replacing just about everything on this so called state of the art computer, everything but the case.
Mother board, power supply, dual G5 chips..........
I've been using mac's since the apple IIe, I love my mac's.
I hope Tekserve can figure out what's going on with yours.
It sounds like it's a design problem though. Have you looked
on Apple's discussion boards to see if others are having the same
problem?
same symptons before long they will not reboot. if i task the cpu it goes right to sleep. on reboot the fans slowly spin up till itsounds like a wind tunnel. only way to get the computer to reboot is to unplug it for 30 minutes
not good way to get anything done
You got it back and it still smokes like that? Have you been taking it to the Apple Store? Don't. Try to take it to one of the Apple specialists in your area. I know it sounds crazy, but it sounds like you are hitting a wall with this and it shouldn't be that difficult.
You have a dual 2.7? Is it new, can you still return it?
the issue unfortunately has not been addressed by Apple. i've read that it is a issue that they are aware of, but no fix yet. lucky for me my company paid for the computer, but i have to deal with the short comings of it.
i too have owned and used macs extensively in the past for graphic work, but this is the lowest of low for a high end machine. i've heard the the new iMacs are also plagued with problems. You have to wonder if quality & hardware testing is starting to lack since apple has become more main stream?
i've used mac computers as long as i've had a computer (since the Performa 630CD). I am currently on the older iMac (the flatspanel attached to the bowl-base). I would wait till the intel based macs come out before getting my next comp (i think it would even be possible to install windows on it as well - for all those times you cant use a mac), and I would probably make it a laptop.
All is resolved.
Rather than hear me ***** about the work not getting done my boss decided to get me a brand new G5 Tower 2.7ghz (same computer )with even more ram.
