NYCAC is a Kill Shelter!! New York City Animal Control

All adoption places want to call the landlord to make sure the landlord is OK with animals living in their apartments. The reason is that a lot of animals get adopted, to be returned because the landlord, spouse, parent won't allow them. It is just a fact of life for these poor animals.
Dimitry, why don't you ask the management office if a cat is allowed? The likely hood is that they do. Generally it is dogs that landlords have a problem with because of irresponsible owners.

I voted for both cats and dogs, but in the end I'd say cats rule the jungle

A Veterinarian friend said it best:

"I own a lynx and a German Shepard, should I ever drop dead in my kitchen my dog will cry and lick my face. My Lynx on the other hand will begin to eat my dead body come the next morning."

The company that manages my building is pretty "strict." They won't even allow satellite dishes/antennas on the roof for tenants. I'm sure there's a strict "no pets" policy, though I know there are people in the building with cats and small dogs. I asked my super about a cat and he said: "You can have two, but I wouldn't get more than two." (I'm only planning on one.) I'm not sure, though, that my super (who has a fish tank, so he and I bond) thinks like the management company does. What if you adopt on the weekend - the shelter can't expect the management co. to be open on the weekend, can they?
