I have both, both by way of game consoles-hd-dvd 360 add on and blu ray via ps3. Both I have hooked up via hdmi and both honestly look the same. I also have a HTPC hooked up to the tv as well and it upconverts it to 1080p and you know what regular dvd quality upconverted looks just as well as the new HD formats, except that the blacks color is a little more richer.! I pick HD-DVD just cause sometimes you can get it in regular dvd combo!:meow:

Well, More is beeing offered for blue ray than HD-DVD. So expect that to be the norm. or untill they do another upgrade and put both in the closet.

There was this survey i seen on the whole blue ray vs HD-DVD where it showed most sales for people who wanted to use either was to buy either a PS3 or Xbox. The people who purchased PS3's were more likely to use it as a DVD player than the Xbox customers. And the sales of blue ray were higher nationwide than HD-DVD.

I know a few stores who have mostly blue ray around me and very little HD-DVD because noone buys them.

I personally don't like HD-DVD because Blue ray sounds soo much cooler. How sad is that.

I'm one of those who are staying out of the fight until one format wins. Partially it's the cost of the players at this point. But I also really have no desire to start buying DVDs in one format and then - if I invest in the loser - have to buy them all over again in the other one. Huge waste. At the moment a standard Sony DVD player connected with HDMI upconvering to a 50'' HDTV looks pretty darn fantastic!

I still have a LD player, anyone know what that is :lol2:

WSJ had an article on this today, looks like HD-DVD is more popular overseas. Sony cannot restrict their local distribution partners from putting Sony studio produced movies on HD-DVD. You can get just about any release on HD-DVD from oversea amazon stores, and it is all LEAGAL.

I read that as well. HD DVD has no region coding, Blu-ray does...So you can play an HD DVD from anywhere in the world on a US HD DVD player. A eurpoean Blu-Ray movie may not work on your US blu-ray player.

HD DVD is reportedly outselling blu-ray 3 to 1 overseas and has 74% of the market share in Europe...
