What will probably happen is that first you current vehicle registrations will be suspended because of the lien. Then they will suspend your drivers license because of the lien and you won't know it because the letter will be still in the mail (it's called reciprocity, heard it too many times before) Then you'll either go do 1 of 2 things:

1. You'll go to renew your reg or lic and they will refuse to let you because of the lien.

2. You'll get pulled over for a minor traffic infraction and you'll find out the hard way that you have been suspended because you'll be going to jail (central booking and all if you're in NYC, bail if not in NYC).

Option 2 sux option 1 is the reverse of option 2.

So I would pay them.

I'm going to reluctantly pay for it since I don't want it to screw up my credit.

Chicago is still filled with crooks though.... I'm sure Mayor Daley and Jesse White are smiling with my stolen money.

I couldn't agree more. The only point I was making when I said to pay the man, was that there is a point of diminishing returns. This seems to be right at that threshold.

BTW, smart move just getting it over and done with.

tickets

well i do believe illinois is the same as ohio and indiana, which both states i am from, not paying the ticket will not cause you not to be able to renew a registration here in ny. i have a indiana driver's license which was not suspended for non payment ( wasnt a moving violation } but if you do have a ny ticket and you dont pay it they will suspend your driving privilage in ny whether you have a out of state license or not { found that out also after getting pulled over }:irked: gonna turn out to be the most expensive zoa's there is, was going to pick up 2 frags and they will end up costing me about $300 for them { the ticket } do a online search in the illinois law's

Although it's a annoying to find out there was nothing you could do to fight it, you made a good decision in paying them. It's done & you're free & clear. Peace of mind = Priceless :)

Can you clarify this double negative statement (maybe triple)? Do you mean renewing your out of state registration?

If you have NYS Plates you can not renew your registration if you have any government type judgments against you; i.e. parking tickets, property taxes and I think even back child support.

Some tickets are better off just being paid. However, you should always fight any moving violations when there's a chance of officer error. I just beat one today and this officer should go back to the academy and do another year. What a dumbass!

BTW, this is only directed towards the Bad apples!

Pedro most times the officers don't care whether they win or loose just as long as you had to take a day off of work to go to court and inconvenience yourself for a couple of hours. They don't get paid more if they win. But you lost at least an hours work time or family time or drinking time to go to court.

Not really Chief, i still got paid for the day. I left wondering how this dumbass is out on the streets protecting us. Seriously i saw other cops there at the hearing and i thought what the hell, do you even need a GED to get in. Granted they must have been rookies. You know and i know that there's bad apples in every line of work there is. I could tell you one thing, i think he learned what not to do next time.

Also, apparently these tickets were for being unregistered, but I'm sure I had my car registered.
If it was unregistered how did they know it was yours... You could have sold it. Sorry I was late to respond.... You can't fight a 3 year old case but you could have sufficient proof to clear you.. And in order to do that you have to set up a trial at a superior court.. Which would cost you more than just paying the darn tickets... Life..Regardless that it is happening to you and not me I still feel bad... Try to settle a price with one of the traffic judges.

Chicago is the land of tickets. I think the city's entire revenue comes from issuing any type of ticket possible, and they will go to the end of the earth to collect.

I lived there for six years. Someone told me that if you pay part of the ticket and they cash the check, it is considered payment in full. Yes, I was that naive :)

My car was registered to my mother. Five years after I moved to NY, my mom called me in a motherly rage. Her neighbor, the local police chief, had stopped by to let her know that there was a warrant issued for her arrest due to unpaid parking tickets. Needless to say, I paid those tickets in a hot second!!!

I feel bad for you because I am in the same boat with a moving violation that happened in California a few years ago. The officer issued the ticket with the wrong phone number on it so I had now way of contacting the court to find out how to fight or pay ( there was no fine or payment information on the ticket ) the ticket. I found a phone number online but I could never get a live person on the phone and my ticket or drivers license was not registering anything on the online site. A year later I received a suspension and $750 collections letter. I have tried contacting lawyers but they are also crooks and charge more than the fine itself. I tried writing the court and received a generic pay your fine letter back. Once I settle and come up with some money here I will probably just accept it as a Divine punishment and pay it. The system sucks and the only defense is to have as little to do with it as possible. What pissed me off most was that the officer was claiming I was doing over 90 mph on a LA highway during rush hour which was a load of bs. I asked if he was sure I was the right car and he told me that " I was the only white toyota camry on the road. " My wife gets nasueas if I even do 60, so I dont know how the hell I could have been doing 90.

Well, a new terrible development. Wasn't aware of this, but while I went to pay this today I found out that this bill is called a "judgement" and I'm officially getting sued. I spoke to the people who sent me the judgement and they said that this is something that will go on my credit report regardless of payment. EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So at this point I figure that my good standing in credit is worth more than the 600$ bill, so I'm thinking it is time to speak to a lawyer. If this is something that a lawyer can negotiate and get off my credit report, then I'd like to do that. (No clue if that is possible or if i'm just totally screwed here.).

This sucks. Any further advice wise ones?

Once it goes on your credit report it stays on it for a certain number of years. I don't think an attorney can do anything about it.

A judgment will go on your credit report. However, once it is satisfied, it will be identified on your credit report as a 'Satisfied Judgment' as opposed to 'Open Judgment'. Any creditor looking to give you credit will ask for an explanation. Have one written out and prepared to submit to them. Lots of people have judgments for outstanding medical bills. Valid explanations will still get you through the mortgage process. Also, as the judgment ages on your credit report it becomes less critical. So the sooner you satisfy it the better. If you were applying for a mortgage and satisfied the judgment just to get the mortgage approval they will look less favorably on that. If it was satisfied 6 or 8 months earlier it bodes much better for you.
