I just got some letter saying i owe 600 bucks for parking tickets in chicago from 2004. I really don't remember getting them, but it has been so long, who knows.

I know there are some lawyers here. How do I weasel my way out of this?

I used to live in chicago and go back there frequently. I'd like to get this squared away with them and def don't want anything on my credit report.

Also, apparently these tickets were for being unregistered, but I'm sure I had my car registered.

y can't u just call the dmv of chicago n look up your registration info in 2004 n dismiss the tickets.

Tried doing that. they said that since these are so old, I've gone way past the period of contesting the tickets. But I didn't have a chance to contest them because I'm just now finding out about them (3 FRICKIN YEARS LATER!!!!!!).

Now I'm technically being sued for them and basically I'm being told "there's nothing you can do about it. Either pay or we garnish your wages".

I've gotta have some rights on this, no?
Come on lawyers!!!!!

They say you owe $600. How much do you think it would cost to hire a lawyer to fight it? ;)

Pay the man. It sucks, it's injustice, it's cheaper than the fight......not to mention the inconvenience of it all.

Agreed, next step is they will file a judgment against you. A judgment takes 10 years to expire for the date of filling and it WILL mess up your credit. Also that judgment will have to be paid the next time go to take out a loan of any type. As Russ said your best course of action is to just pay them.

You could also consider a boycott of Chi-ca-ga altogether.

I don't know if it works the same with Chicago as it is with NY but in NY they can actually take the money right out of your bank account. Your bank will also charge you a legal fee for handling the transaction. I had this happen to me a # of years ago. I then fought the tickets, won, and got my money back but I still had to paid for the bank legal costs, which I think was about $50-$100.
