I come across this situation when I need some manual laborer to unload my truck.

I said to the teens who frequent my cafe and offer a "so and so" price per hour for a minium of 2 hrs to 4 hrs. I needed about 5 to 6 persons.

It turned out only a MR member (who is a youngster too) showed up to unload the truck. All others did no show up even though they have been always asking for jobs all the time.

1)What you think a teenager would expect to make for this kind of work?
2)What would you offer?

I will post what my offer was Monday or so.

NYS has a minimum wage. I am sure you could find it out if you :google: New York State Minimum wage

four hours of unloading a truck?

if you're unloading boxes of pillows, I'd say 20 for the truck.

if you're unloading cement bricks, I'd say $50.

And It always depends on the size of the truck.

remember, pay peanuts and you'll get monkeys.

The New York minimum wage is automatically replaced with the Federal minimum wage rate if it is higher than the State minimum.
As far as what you should pay them, well think of what it was worth for you not to have to do the work yourself, and if you pay correctly you will have someone who will help out when needed, not someone who is pissed cause they humped for you and could have made more collecting bottle's :scratchch

I was talking about $/hr with a minimum of 2 to 4 hrs work so that they don't waste time to walk over 2 blocks to get to the job site.

travel time to and from at a rate of $8.50/hr 2 hr limit.

$12.50 hourly wage for actual work. 8 hours paid guaranteed even if work day ends before 8 hour mark.

Meals provided for by employer

Any work performed after 8 hours has been completed (meals included) it double time and a half pay with a minimum of 3 hours guaranteed.

Totally agree with this.
When I hire anyone, I know what I'm looking to pay, I find out what they're looking for. If what I'm willing to pay is higher than what they're looking for, I offer more than what they asked for and less than what I expected to pay. It normally assures I get a commitment from them and they do good work.

If they're asking for more than I'm willing to pay, I look for other workers. There is always someone looking for work.

$10 Hr Is Fair . Mexicans Get $80 A Day So if they work 4 Hours $40 is Fair.

Just a little politically incorrect. Besides when's the last time you hired you a day laborer? The going rate is closer to $150.

Not all Day Laborers are Mexican! Lets not stereotype. :Hydrogen:

There was an article in my local paper that said the average pay for a Day Laborer is $12/hr. But we all know the truth and that is that the contractor will pay what ever he wants at the end of the day. Ive heard many horror stories of guys getting paid $20 for a 12 hour day or even worse, being dropped off somewhere along the road and not getting paid at all.

Keep it simple. If you are going to need a few guys to help you offer them a set price not an hourly wage. What do you think the job would cost? Use that figure and come up with a $ amount.
