:sigh: Can we close this thread already?! :grumpy:
Sorry to bore you.
What makes you so interested in closing this thread(it's only like one day)-there are still many people who are in business has not read this thread yet. People are objective and friendly discussing in this thread. No bashing nor alike.
Anyway I am closing my story tonight as promised.
That's what I said that day, "Guys who have asked me to give you jobs come over. My friend have a truck coming over tomorrow, each box is weighting from 10lb to the most 100lbs. So I will need 4 to 5 persons. The heavy ones will be handled by me and some SKILLED workers(LFS-I used the exact word. I expect to hire 2 more SKILLED workers at corners of the street where they usually stick around.) The others, you guys handle. I will pay $10/hrs (which is same for me-my friend pay me the same) with a minimum of 2 to 4 hours so that you won't waste time walking 2 blocks and make only $10 bucks" The TEENS rushed over and said "yes I would do it." So arrangement of time and location are set. Next day, when the truck came, only one of the TEEN came(it happended that he is also a MR member.) Note: I have knowledge how inexperienced these TEENs who accepted the offer because I hired them to move speakers and such before.
So my friend has to hire just about anyone around the truck to work. Same offer all the time-$10/hr. One passing-by person, dressed like a construction worker, asked if we need laborer. I said. "Yes, $10.00/hr and minimum 4 hrs." He gladly accepts and put on his waist belt. But the progress is so slow then when 2 muscular persons, who looked to me SKILLED laborer and strong, asked me, " $10/hr, I can move your stuff in no time" I said of course.
Result: 1)The TEENS my friend hired moved stuff at a rate, let say, S1
2)The guy in belt is 1.5 times S1
3)The 2 muscular guys, 4 times of S1. They are not only fast, powerful, skilled and very enduring. They even teach the MR TEEN how to use the hand truck in turning around the house/I taught him how to pile the boxes appropriate for the hand truck and how to shuffle the hand truck in one stroke and tilt it little effort.
4)I myself is around 3 time S1
5)EVERYONE gets same pay except at the end I told my friend to give $20 tips to each the later two guys because they are fast and SKILLED.
I come back to the cafe and asked those TEENS why they didn't show up. They said they EXPECTED to get more. So I asked, "How Much?" They say like $30 for 2 hours. I then asked them how much their father(kind of skilled) is making in construction? Mostly $100 a day. I asked them why they think you should get higher pay than their skilled fathers. "I value my time more" are their answers.
My points:
1)Many people who applied for a job are not valuing their own skills or experience, qualifications to the job. As seen with the TEENS whom my friend hired.
2)Many people who applied for a job are valuing their likings or willingness more than the qualifictions to the job. The TEENS who accepted my offer.
2)TEENs are ever growingly value their free time much more than anything else. That's propably why we have such a hard time to tell our own kids to do certain things.
3)Skilled or not skilled workers does not necessarily know thier fair market value. The 2 muscle guys who happends to be adult. They are as least twice the speed of the guy in belt. Theya re not doing me a favor, they just simply think that they worth $10/hr. Obviously they do not value their time as much as the TEENS. I did not make the offer, they started to offer me at a rate which I think is lower than average. That's why I asked my friend to give them a $20 tips each.
4)I seemed to have lost touch with the nowaday TEENS' expectations even though I fool around with them all the time. So I started this thread to see if you guys fall for the same. Parents take notice.
Deano close the thread after one more post that I am going to address Pedro
