My cats are notorious bird watchers. They move around between the three big windows in my apartment following the different types of birds that arrive throughout the day (a lot of pigeons, some sort of redbird, and others).

They FREAK out when any of the birds make sounds, if you are in between them and the window/doors when a bird makes a call, watch out!

Today I noticed that they were especially fixated on the birds that have been hanging around our balcony.

I took a closer look and now know why (see photos).

I haven't been able to get a photo of it yet, but underneath that bird are two eggs about the size of marbles, they must have been laid today and are the whitest things I have ever seen. They glow like pearls.

So now everyone here is on chick-watch.

I will post photos when and if they hatch. Keep your fingers crossed.

That's pretty cool Josh. I'm surprised they picked such an open location. I guess they figured you weren't using the porch, lol. They should hatch within 2 weeks. Keep us posted!

Thats great. Yeah, no one smokes on the balcony anymore, and with this nice weather it was good timing. I might put a bag of twigs and hay in the corner of the balcony if they want to fix the nest a little. It isn't very much at the moment, but the mother appears to be devoted and has not left them.

you could start to talk to them and freak the cats out.

say
"whooo whooo" {pause} "whoo whooo" Like 'who' but hold the "o" not like 'woo"

wait for them to answer then call back.

they'll do it for quite a while.

Doves taste good btw. Roast them with some onions and bacon.

" Both sexes incubate, the male from morning to afternoon, and the female at night and the rest of the day. Mourning Doves are devoted parents; nests are very rarely left unattended by their parents.[Incubation takes approximately two weeks. Mourning Doves are strongly altricial, with the young, called squabs, being helpless at hatching and covered with down.[10] Both parents feed the squabs pigeon's milk (dove's milk) for the first few days of life. The crop milk is gradually augmented by seeds and adult foods. Fledging takes place in about 11-15 days, before the squabs are fully grown but after they are capable of digesting adult food.[11] They will stay nearby to be fed for up to a few weeks after fledging.[3]"
