Savager, I agree with your sentiments somewhat. It just hits home a little harder when it's someone of the same nationality. For whatever convoluted reason, it just does.
However, he isn't a representative of all South Korean/Korean-American, we must remember that. Sadly, there always will be people who think otherwise.

All this is just really heartbreaking stuff. :sigh:

yes J.

but let's say he's from your hometown or you grew up near each other...you'd react a little differently, no? I would. Like I've said for whatever convoluted and twisted reason, I would.
That's all I've got to say about cultural/regional identity. That's not the main focus here, so I'll stop at this. :happysad:

you're right that crazy is crazy--- and in this case, crazy sad too.

This is so sad. I think it boils down to the fact that children today for the most part are given everything and don't have to work for it. The majority of the kids today have no discipline and not respect for anyone but demand that everyone respect them. Their parents give them cell phones, cars, xbox's, playstations, etc but when they step out of line they don't get the arse whooping that most of us got, whether verbal or physical, when we stepped out of line as kids.

You can't ground them they don't listen. You certainly can't spank them because you can go to jail.

Guns don't kill people, people with guns do, and it is true that more strict laws don't stop criminals from getting guns it's stops law abiding citizens from doing so. Whats the solution? I don't know but the first part should start at home teaching your kids right from wrong.

It has nothing to do with being Korean, Irish, Samoan, canadian or african, he's a human being (monster) but his nationality or heritage should have nothing to do with it. You have nothing to embarassed about.

STRONGLY AGREED

Sadly, there always will be people who think otherwise.

ALSO STRONGLY AGREED

Besides what Chief said about teaching values of right or wrong to youngsters, we ourselves should start to learn the importance accepting the RIGHTS TO LIVE of any human beings. Obviously, the gunman has a very low value of human lives.

I watched a piece about some of the victims tonight. It made the story much more personal.

I'm at a loss for words over how senseless this was. What a tragic waste.

Agreed ,

Srry guys i didnt mean to start anything with the gun statement ,It just to easy for kids to get guns nowadays

Cheif said it well .It starts with discipline at home .

It sad that this is a korean man ,but nothing to be ashamed about ,there are good and bad in every race. I cant take blame for every crime a jewish persons makes :) . What ever went thru this kids mind ,I pray everyday we dont think that way

Bless their souls and their parent :( No one should have to live through something like this !!

Gun control only effects those who LEGALLY own guns. The guy that goes out and buys a stolen or illegally smuggled weapon isn't registering it with any government body like the rest of us do. Drugs such as cocaine, marijuana, heroin, opium, etc. are all illegal, yet they are pervasive in our communities. Why is that? Is it because the law abiding citizens are bringing it in and using it or is it the dregs of society that are to blame? When someone uses a gun in a crime such as this with the intent to ultimately kill themselves there is no defense.
I shoot on a regular basis with friends of mine from all walks of life (plastic surgeon, dentist, judge, D.A., lawyer, teacher, state trooper, air force vet., among others) and miraculously we all have our arms registered and have never committed a crime with any of them.
One of the best cases of where gun control failed was in a city in southern florida. For years the gun laws were so prohibitive that it was almost impossible to get one legally and crime went up every year. A new mayor was elected and seeing that the strict gun laws had failed to reduce crime (they in fact caused the opposite) he lifted the laws and made it easier for citizens to legally procure a gun. Crime plummeted quickly due to the fact that criminals are opportunistic and if the opportunity to get shot while braking and entering is high they are more likely to find a new line of work.
Just to draw a parallel with our beloved hobby. If there were a rash of murders in NY where someone used Palytoxin to kill fellow students in the lunch room, do you think they should outlaw zooanthids and palys entirely and treat us all as potential murderers? Or should they punish those who perpetrated the crime since the majority cannot be judged by only a few? (no more gorilla nipples )

These shootings were a horrific tragedy but to say it was the guns fault is just grasping at anything to make sense where there is none to be made. If anything it was the campus security that failed the inured and dead students by not alerting the entire campus and canceling classes.
