Caribbean diving recommendations? DR & St. Marten

Hey all,

I will be traveling to the Dominican Republic as well as St. Marten in a couple of months and was wondering if anyone had any scuba recommendations.

I found DR to be pretty lame for snorkle, never been to St Martin.

Cozumel Mexico is with the trip if you have to swim there.

I've snorkelled at St. Barths and Jamaica and the reefs are fair at best. I've heard better things about other islands, not St. Marten or The DR tho. I've also heard that the carib reefs had major coral die off last year so the overall experience might be fair at best.

When I snorkel (only did the scuba thing once - indonesia - and I'm spoiled) I like to see colorful reefs along with the fish and other critters. The carib. doesn't seem to have as much but the fish and other life can be pretty good. I spent a solid hour hovering around a very large cuttlefish in Jamaica, saw some monstrous porcupine puffers and some funky looking eels as well. Lots of new coral growth that actually looked like the reef was seeded to spur the coral growth
