I love how you guys try to take a thread over cause you don't liek the subject matter. Why nto jsut not read it and stay out of it instead of try to change the subject.
If they want to close the post go right ahead. I am done talkign about it. I think it is silly cause no rules are being broken and we are jsut have a good open ended discussion... YOu gusy can come visit my board if it is such a problem here....

Jas for all intents and purposes, your last statement is probably why the thread was closed. Because it was on the way to alienating someone from the community. While there are a few here of which I wouldn't mind alienating, you are not one of them so please, take it constructively and pm the mods if you have any further questions. This thread is right on topic BTW, it does ask why the other thread was closed and in one way or another people have given fact or opinion as to why that thread was closed. Nobody took a thread over or hijacked it, it was open for public debate and if you wanted a specific answer you should have sent a PM to the mod or mods that closed it.

It had nothing to do with the topic or being adults.

If the topic starts going a different direction, I will close it again.

Being adults doesn't always mean people can contribute valid comments or thoughts to a particular topic.

A word on its own thou, has very little difference, its only when you add refences in a sentence that you really determine how a word is to be used. :duh:
I don't get it. I am part of the community and I started the thread to talk about the hikers. It was an open discussion and I have no problem with other people?s opinions. The point was to just talk things out and see where people stood.
All I am saying is that some people don't like the topic but instead of ignoring it and just looking at other topics they feel the need to post responses on the thread that have nothing to do with the topic....
I thought we were adults here and could have a serious discussion but it appears that I was wrong. I just don't understand why people feel the need to hijack the thread.....

Jas, the topic of this thread was "Why did you close the thread on the hikers?" I think that is what is being discussed on this thread. In the recent past more than enough threads have turned out to be just a place for one member to get on another members case. Phil(DevIouS) saw where it was heading OR could have possibly gone and he chose to close it. Better safe than sorry.

I thought the point of this thread was to discuss why your other thread was closed. Mods have answered.
Now what do you want to discuss about?
In one simple sentence:
"I want this thread to discuss _____."
Help us help you.
You know, you can start another thread on the same subject. It wasnt closed due to subject matter.
But to be honest, you first post on the other thread asked a whole bunch of questions.
You did ask people how they "feel" on the subject, and that's really broad.
If you want people to focus on what you mentioned (TV coverage, tax payer's money, etc.), then ask so.
Otherwise, things can and probably will get messy.
On the thread hijacking, I wouldn't call it that. We are, for the most part, addressing the issue you broght up. Aside from the occassional candid comments from close members, we're maintaining the subject matter.
I would say we detract from the thread, not hijack.
Not blaming you, just if you present the topic in a more formatted way, perhaps we can all be adults and discuss what you want discussed the second time around.
