call sherm but from experience I was doing 48 in a 25 I just paid the $160 fine and called it a day I was sure I would receive points but I went to consult a lawyer and he wanted $600 and $400 for court fees and fines with no guarantee that my points would be taken care of. I calculated that your insurance will go up between 20 to 50 a point each month until it clears but I just renewed my insurance policy and was told I had 2 points and it only went up $80 for 6 months I am 28 years old not to many moving violations and insurance has been in my name since I was 18. Hope this helps

If they didn't give you the supporting deposition put a request in with the court for one. If you don't receive it in a certain amount of days you can have you ticket dismissed.

i don't think it will be on your driving record cause you didn't go to court. but their could be a warrant out for you.

Don't ask for the supporting dep it's just more paper work for the cop and then they won't cut u a break.
Just plea not guilt by mail then get date go to court they will reduce it down to no points and a decent fine it's all about the money
I have had several tickets in last few years and still no points on my liscen just less money in my bank account
Like some one else said don't be afraid to ask for 0 point ticket

Don't know about other municipalities, but in NYC traffic court doesn't have the authority to issue arrest warrants for just outstanding traffic violations..... They just suspend or revoke your license and then if you get caught driving you can be arrested. You can check by either going to your Ins Co or to the DMV.

Quite frankly, if a lawyer says "give me your ticket, and $150 and don't bother coming to court"...the $150 went in his pocket, the ticket went in the trash, and your license is now suspended!

HA Ha that would suck! No I drive yellow cab and tickets are part of the job. However my license needs to be kept clean in order to continue to operate. There are lots of law offices that cater to the cab industry in this way and fight tickets all the time by getting them dismissed. I cannot say how they do it. But I have had tickets dismissed on serveral occasion and my license is in good standing. I have heard rumors that alot of these law offices have relationships with judges, police officers, ect as well as continually postponing the court dates till they get tied up in limbo, I have also heard they just pay the cop $50 not to show up to court(not sure how true that one is). All very shady I agree. But thats the way most of the system operates unfortunately. Prices vary as do results. Also some lawyers are better than others, But its not exclusive to me its a known cost of doing business. My father in law has been driving for years and has been fighting his tickets the same way just as long. Even if very obviously guilty, Never plead guilty. Like someone stated before its all about the $. And we pay lots of money to avoid points on our records.

But again im not sure how it works for outside of nyc.
